Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 13
I haven't read The Kracken Wakes for years (I'll add it to my list of books to re-read) but regularly return to The Chrysalids and Trouble with Lichen. The Midwich Cuckoos was too disturbing.

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 13
The Day of the Triffids. My favourite book ever. Read it at school when I was about 14. I've read it several times since and still get scared with those plants. My family are used to me saying I don't like certain plants because they look like triffids. They think I'm strange anyway. Meanwhile, in t...

Re: About growing lettuce 🥬😄
Right, that's it. I'm not wasting any more time or money on lettuce. Even the one I grew on the windowsill got greenfly!

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 13
Speaking of keys, I've just added a house one to my grab bag. Had to laugh at myself recently when I was checking through a handbag I use less often and found 2 front door keys. We have a set of keys in the front door that whoever is last out of the house grabs on the way out and also keep a set eac...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 13
Recently decided to add some cash to my grab bag just in case my handbag is unavailable in case of having to evacuate the house quickly. They are kept at opposite ends of the house. Suggested to sons that they might like to have a plan but one said he'd just grab his rucksack as it has his wallet in...

Re: "wildfire risk" extremely high..
We both received the alert. Of course, my phone was in a different room. Mr A said he thought he'd turned off alerts so he has now turned them off again. I used the example of people being told to leave their houses due to the approaching flames to suggest to him that "we" should pack bags...

Re: Moving from Prepare to Implement.
Jenny - yes, I am gradually mentioning ideas to Mr A who often agrees but then, some days later, tells me about HIS ideas which were the ones put into his mind by me! He has quite happily lived with my "good pantry" for nearly 40 years now. GillyB - it would be extremely unlikely for us to...

Re: Moving from Prepare to Implement.
It looks to me as if I need to up my prepping game. I need to: (in no particular order) keep more cash at home and therefore find somewhere safe but not impossible for family to find should I no longer be here. Continue to order prescription medicines early. I wonder how early will make the surgery ...

Re: Vintage Singer 201k sewing machine rebuild/rewire
Reading about other people's sewing machines, I realise I need more! I only have 2, an old Singer hand cranked one and an (apparently "retro", according to the Great British Sewing Bee) electric one from the 1980s. Guess which one gets the most use, and I make most of my own clothes. I rea...

Re: Any other lasses on here?
Another northern woman here. I come from a line of strong northern women whose menfolk, even though they were the breadwinners, always knew who buttered the bread.
I'm also the prepper in the family (just the two of us these days), but Mr A knows we won't run out of mustard when he empties the jar.
