Yes its crap but that's the bottom line, in shtf all bets are off pass the zombie crowbar

If someone breaks in it is just that, self defence is when someone is coming after you, not your stereo/possessions, even in the states you cannot just shoot or attack people over mere property, but you can use reasonable and proportionate force in defence of yourself or your family, if Southern Hunter for instance was holed up with his family, armed and warning invaders that if they persist in coming at the family he can and will use his weapons against them, at that point if they do not go away you are defending yourself, but you may well still be in trouble if you over do it.KrisWard wrote:surely the idea of this thread was to use items which are every day items in the home. You cant get in trouble for using things which are to hand surely. As preppers we may have a few additional items i.e. for bushcraft knives, machettes, axes etc
Surely if someone breaks in and we use any item on them in defence, provided it is not extreme we are not doing anything wrong, or am I being too niave?
Now that is perspective10 years on the doors and I never hit anyone. Locked and restrained hundreds but never hit anyone. Never forgot that line though. Apparently the difference is BELIEVING you're in danger not waiting until it's too late.
Like Poppypiesdad says and I agree but more than that,I think it's more we feel a duty to discourage everyone getting all "Defcon 4" than we think we can't, even a martial arts trained person understands that their skill can get them into trouble should they miss use it, we have all pretty much seen DD preppers and the UK versions, the latter has at least one character who collected as many "weapons" as he could, and you tube is full of them, their chances of getting a section2 license are slim and a section 1 unthinkable and that is sad, I for one would rather see people joining clubs, having fun learning everything from Judo through to .50cal club as a legitimate social activity, than surrounding and isolating themselves in a house full sharp pointy things and pellet guns - 1 person so armed would have little chance against a couple of people wearing thick clothing and a motor cycle helmet, defence if TSHTF is a different ball game with many more grey areas, one thing you can be sure of is that the desperate un prepared people will soon work out that their chances improve no end if they team up and they would, whereas all too many of us go directly to the "Alamo" strategy, circling you wagons and fighting for your life when no re enforcements are coming will only give the satisfaction of knowing you may take some attackers with you.Manclife wrote:Why do people on this site still think you can't have weapons in your own home without a spurious excuse like having a glove and ball with a bat?! I'll say it again.....you can have ANY weapon (bar firearms etc) you want in you house and quite openly say it's for protection and there's nothing the police can do about it. Outside your home and you do need a lawful excuse.

Like I said, wasp killer ... I get invasions every so often (of wasps! not the human kind) and I use it for its stated purpose. Even on the top floor, away from the front door. Why go to the sharp pointy things straight away... A hand full of powdered laundry soap thrown in an intruders face will make them think twice.. so would something like Pepper or curry powder....
