This one isn't sharp. And I really would rather chew my own ears off than use it as a weapon. Plus, it's right at the bottom of my back pack - and in my back pack, that means moving a hell of a lot of stuff. Not what you'd call easily accessible! I've not yet managed to forget to remove it before travelling to more populated areas, but I would imagine that the religious aspect would be a fairly effective defense, given the precedents already set on that front.

How about a one-piece, stainless steel 4-5" blade tea knife (round end, blunt and without a silly plastic handle).

A small pot of margarine.

And a diamond nail file.

If TSHTF and WROL, eat the margarine and start filing...

As others have said, just pack a UKEDC knife.

Daily I carry a #8 Opinel..... But only if I'm travelling between work and home (my 'Good Reason' is that its a work knife), I also have a small slip-joint blade on my mini multitool (that doubles as a key fob)

However, I'm thinking of getting a Svord Mini Peasant as I want a knife that I can carry anytime and standard slip-joints are just plain dangerous

EDC I've never worried about what knife I carry and the law because I've never fallen in the demographic likely to be stopped and searched. In the last 9yrs I've carried a SAK Forrester, Opinel 8 (1st Xmas pressy from my daughters) and Kershaw Whiskey Gap (Until very recently), I've only just gone legal with my multi-tool (http://blackthorn-bushcraft.blogspot.co ... eview.html).

I don't carry a knife in a GHB because it's part of my EDC already.

the only time anyone gets stopped for carrying a knife is when there under 25 and they're waving the thing about, keep quiet and act normally and you'll more than likely wont get stopped, in the whole of 43 years living in a city I was only stopped once and wasn't searched, and yes I was carrying a full sized sheath knife,( but not openly).

As a engineer, my leatherman is attached to my belt at all times, never had any issues over it although I admit if shoping at weekend I remove tool and just leave pouch when doing the shop. but dispite that I never leave home without it, even have a spare in the van!

Is it illegal to have a knife in your car if its hidden away with the spare wheel along with some other tools - i.e. not at all easily accessible?

I used to have a box hidden away in the car that had all kinds of gear in it - some rope, a torch and batteries, some water, some chocolate etc etc - plus a big serious fixed blade knife.

At the time I didn't worry about that - never occurred to me that being squirreled away in the underbelly of the car might be classed as me 'carrying' it.

In the meantime all that stuff got used - moved around - and isn't in the car anymore. Could I have been prosecuted for it at the time?

This is what worries me I carry my leatherman for work as an engineer and pop into shops before/during/after work and not alway sure on the legality.
