Not planning for the end of the world just to survive till normality resumes, while sticking to the scout moto be prepared!
Still considering do I want to survive the end of the world or deck chair on the front lawn with a cold beer?

I wouldn't class myself as paranoid but can't help thinking of crumbs of food working their way into the joints on those type of tools and quietly festering away despite my best efforts to clean it. I'd go with Bob's suggestion or just carry a simple stainless spoon which is my preferred option.FEISTY wrote:As long as the stuff's clean when you put it back in the pouch, it should be OK hygiene-wise ...... I wouldn't use something for food that you couldn't get really clean, but then I'm a Mum and paranoid that way.

Just a side-note on that mate, although I personally love sporks, we recently had a bunch of kids at the ACF detachment where I volunteer manage to snap a bunch of theirs! I'd thought they were indestructible to be honest but I suppose not, I guess I would rather carry a slightly heavier KFS (and let's not forget the morale implications of eating like a gent out in the fieldbob the builder wrote:Cutlery wise I don't think you can beat a spork light weight easy to clean halfords have them 2 for £1.50
Another slight advantage over a titanium/aluminium/stainless KFS is that they are slightly easier to clean and muck shows up easier on them.
I have often found myself out in the field with a spork, licking it off between stirring a can of beans and stirring my mess tin brew!! I just like to have a little designated cutlery set: I like eating!
Wellll that was a long "sidenote"!

is it this type?

they are not bad but only have a constant run of about 500watts and are not stable enough to run anything valuable. the first one i had killed itself when i tried to run a drill . Ok for a few lead lights or the like if you can take the constant dimming and brightning as the guvoner tries to keep up ... They do have a 12v battery charger outlet which is about 8a iirc

Re: Aldi buys
I'd get a couple of those petrol lanterns if light is what you want, this thing if as Butterbean says wont run anything expensive, and the starting load on the average fridge would kill it before long, it is of little real use!
I have a strategy, it's not written in stone, nor can it be, this scenario has too many variables, everything about it depends on those variables, being specific is not possible.

The Coleman petrol lanterns err don't like to be run on error petrol for too long all the additives in the fuel which is good for your car gums the "generator" tube up fairly quickly and that's before you worry about combustion gasses and carcinogens in it...... And the fire risk
. I've got 3 of them but I'd be VERY wary using one in doors...
I run mine on "napthia" aka body shop fast panel wipe.... Its about £15 for 5 l its the same chemical as what Coleman fuel is but that's about £8 for 500ml
This is what I use but I didn't pay that
