Maybe that was a reason you didn't catch anything but not a bad gear.

I have a plastic pot with a mix of hooks lures and floats with line around the pot. Got quite a lot of the kit from 99p stores selection.
I've done this before, I had an aunt from austrailia show me how to do this but we used a jam jar so you could keep all your kit inside of it. We caught around 4 small fish every hour, I was too young to tell what they were but we had a good barbecue that day :).

I never said I didn't catch anything ;-)
there were mornings when I had 20 fish or more, and then I was happy, but there were mornings when I couldn't catch anything, and staring at water for few hours without result was putting me off

So what kind of advise do you need then?

Please can members refrain from discussing/demonstrating illegal techniques and equipment, we need to ensure we keep everything within the law.

Thank you.

I never tried to encourage anybody to use these methods. Actually I never used them, just mentioned they exist.

I had proper sishing rod then and proper reel. I was seeking advise on what you can do with just a hook and you did answer the question. I don't know why you keep digging when all was said.

Forget all the theory and fancy spring trap doodads. Get some legal tackle and GO fishing. And KEEP going fishing. Then you will understand the ways of the water and the fish.
I am an avid angler, and 44 years experience. Today I caught in excess of 50 fish. However, it took an hour of finding the right feeding line, tackle depth etc. before I got a bite. Last week I did not even get that!
When you can catch fish, you will then understand what 'basic' BOB kit will and will not work, which looking at kit lists is most of it imo.
Go fishing, and enjoy it.

Might want to look into getting a cast net.

I have fished with them in many parts of the world and they really work well.

Now this is for EOTW. Not to be caught using in the wrong places.

Look in a military pilots survival kit and you will find a gill net made of mono-filament.

By all means get some standard fishing gear.

Yet also get some back-up. EOTW time and energy are at a premium. You need food with the least effort. So take the time you are using with normal fishing equipment and double or triple your effort to result.

My advise on the supplemental equipment is. Get some of the cheap folding fish pots off ebay from china. Get a gill net you can string in a waterway and if you can get a cast net.

That should fill your tool chest for harvesting from water.
I don't do politics or religion. Seen to many people die because of these.

I post to contribute so take as you see fit. My way is not the only way.

Cheers

I'm no fisherman by any means, its a set of skills I should develop. I do have yo-yo reels and Gill nets which can be used in certain circumstances legally in the UK but broadly speaking are not on for general use. The two chaps I camp with are pretty good at fishing trout and salmon, but like me don't think its worth depending upon the basic hook and line you see in so many 'survival kits'. Folding crab/crayfish nets are well worth buying if you have crayfish in your rivers like http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/33118458 ... 108&ff19=0 and we've had some good meals from the crayfish we've caught.
