Might go and pick some up tonight after all the work force have gone home.
Re: Pallets.
Could only get the two smaller ones in my car. Loads of the bigger ones still there. What a shame. Im really gutted as they would have been a very nice start for my raised beds.jansman wrote:Take a tape measure with you. Re: Pallets.
Can you get a roof rack for your car? You can fit at least one large pallet there.
I drive an old 51 peugot. I could not get a rack to fit , so I bought a product called 'easy rack' from Amazon. Basically it is two pads with all the straps to fit on your roof. Sits in a bag in the boot 'til needed-£25.
Just a thought.

I would not be able to get them on the roof. Was hard enough getting those two in the car haha.jansman wrote:Can you get a roof rack for your car? You can fit at least one large pallet there.

I need to find another prepper near me and we can help each other. I can do the growing, preserving and storing of the food and they can do the heaver work.

Got a towing hitch?
Trailers are the way to go (unless you have a van, pickup or estate)
The best tool for reducing pallets to planks is a nail-puller, this is one like mine
Expect to pay about £25 new or less pre-owned.
Because they grip the nail rather then prying the boards apart you're less likely to split the timber,

Re: Pallets.
No I dont have a towing hitch but could look for one maybe and get a small trailer. I normally get things in the car and use bungees to secure the item and the rear door. But that is only for long narrow items. Pallets were just a tad to wide.ForgeCorvus wrote:Got a towing hitch?

I will get one of those nail removers and "maybe" be able to take them apart enough to get them in my car.
Re: Pallets.
I keep a small hand saw in the boot for cutting pallets down to fit in. I've got quite proficient at reducing pallets down. I also used to put four or five on the roof rack - I'm six foot so I could easily reach

Re: Pallets.
The big advantage of trailers is when you're fetching stuff you don't want in the car like manure or sand, or stuff that just won't fit like 40x48 pallets or 55 gallon water butts.
Plus if you plan on Bugging Out you can take more of your preps with you.
A (non-prepping) friend of mine used to store the camping gear packed in hers, if they wanted to get away for the weekend it was just a case of hitch & roll.

that's a idea! I'm sure I could saw, what I cant prise off. I have a mini grinder at home but its not cordless that's a shame. I have weak wrists now, so have to be careful.Haplo2481 wrote:I keep a small hand saw in the boot for cutting pallets down to fit in. I've got quite proficient at reducing pallets down.
