I've got one of those nail pullers , well an older grimier version and very good they are too. However , when I take a pallet apart I tend to use a reciprocating saw with a metal blade , quick easy and no damage to the timbers.
I will say that pallets vary enormously . Euro pallets (1200mm x 800mm) are sort after and many places will buy them .
non standard size pallets are more commonly thrown away and thus easier to get hold of . The blue Chep pallets remain the property of Chep and they can be funny about them and prosecutions for 'illegal' possession are not unknown. Some pallets (and this really applies to the euro sized reuseable ones) are treated against insect attack and this can be either chemical or they can have been heated in an oven to kill the bugs. A friend used to work for caterpillar and pallets arriving from America would often be made from fairly decent hardwoods , I made him some oak benches from the pallets he come home with.
Seconded with what has been said about the trailer, I've got a transit but sometimes a trailer is so useful.

Pallets are the new Black doncha know ;)

A quick way to reduce bulk while still saving plank length is to chop through the blocks with something like a bolster chisel and prying whats left off..... Mind the nails though

We mostly use 40x48's (thats inches, 1x1.2 mtr if you read foreign) and sometime Euros, the material pallets (which are huge) and the badly broken ones are collected by a bloke who uses them for everything. Last I heard he was building a second (or maybe third) woodshed to store his palletwood.....Out of palletwood :)

And some people just burn them

OK

It turns out pallet mania is catching

Yesterday I come home, alpha male is indicating with his hand and with a smug expression says 'look wot Bob dropped round, I've already sawn up half of them......'

It's a scary thought, but clearly it's contagious....................... :)

kizzie, I would say that two pallets, secured on a rack would be the limit.

Thank you! :)
