New to prepping - Newcastle Upon Tyne

Post by Dyslexicjack »

Hi All,

I've always been interested in self reliance and have made (mental) plans with regards to what I would do in any given scenario (to the amusement of my friends).

I'm now at a point in my life where I'm financially solvent and am looking for a new home (hopefully with plenty of space for prep storage) so I want to make a more concerted effort to prepare effectively.

Spurred on by watching the national geographic series 'Doomsday Preppers', even though I'm sure they pick the most extreme people for affect, I want to prep for loss of infrastructure i.e lack of food in the shops, no electricity and resulting social unrest/ panic.

I know, I know, I sound like one of those crazies :tinfoil from the show but we've witnessed a few episodes of social unrest over the last few years and they weren't even in relation to a major disaster. If we end up where the SHTF for some reason like war, disease, natural disaster, invasion by aliens or rise of the undead (Well maybe not the last two). I want to follow a motto that I believe in...

If you fail to plan, you plan to fail! ;)

Hello and welcome to the forum!

I'm in Carlisle but occasionally travel through to Newcastle to see friends at uni, I'm the same with the mental planning for all sorts of scenarios, even when in a different city I try to think of where I would go if something big were to happen.

I'd be interested to know what your bug out plan would be if it was necessary, towards the sea or further in land?

Hi All, Thanks for the welcome.

i11matic - I'm in the process of developing a more comprehensive bug out plan as the more I think about the one I have at the moment the more I think its just a bit to fast and loose.

With regards to inland or coast, I'm definitely heading inland. Almost all of the coastal areas around Newcastle (heading north or South) are quite densely populated and while I agree with the idea that it will be the larger groups of people and not individuals that will rebuild after any disaster, I personally don't have any faith in people to do the right thing when resources are plentiful never mind when there's server shortages.

My hope is to build a plan centered around a small community scenario and even though my friend and family don't take it to seriously, if I have a plan in place and they are aware of it, even if I'm not around they can take advantage of the foundations I lay.

Are you prepping for a specific threat or just trying to cover general scenarios?

Jack.

inland would have been my choice as well, I guess the good thing with Newcastle is that you can get somewhere pretty rural quite quickly without having to travel too far.

I'm just trying to get to a basic level of preparedness before I aim for any specific situation, but mainly I would say a right wing government (they scare me :tinfoil ), WW3, pandemic or economic collapse.
