Just got back from Germany where I picked up a very nice little Opinel #7.
Lidl had lots of stuff in. Eneloop type batteries 4xAA for 3.99 Emergency Candles for .50c

Unfortunately I couldn't pickup too much as my funds wouldn't stretch too far but for sure next time I go it'll be with a fair amount of money. I missed out on some really nice goodies.

I couldn't believe how cheap stuff is over there in general. If the UK were more like the Germans we wouldn't be in such a mess.

Just been to lidl and filled a trolley, not so much with everyday and prepping items but lots of lovely Christmassy food so I'm pretty much sorted.

Also picked up a flexible neck torch with LED for the workshop but could be used anywhere and 2 LED strip lights for under the kitchen cupboards.

Tried to post pics but it wouldn't let me. :?

Today I have pruned all the fruit trees. They are worth looking after as they yield well and contribut a lot to our food supply. Double bubble really, as the prunings went on the woodpile.
I am now in front of the woodstove with pen and paper designing some new poultry housing.

Been a busy week for me, remember I'm starting out almost from scratch apart from buying a couple of tins of beans extra.

I've done both the wife and myself the little key ring thing I mentioned with a bit of cash in it and a couple of paracetamol in each really couldn't get any more in them. Slow starts where the wife is concerned.

We are on a prepayment meter for gas and electric, a remnant from when we rented out the house where we live now, back in the good old days before my health decided to pack up and bugger off and we lost a hell of a lot, (due to poor planning and lack of readiness). So I've topped up the gas and electric and thrown a little extra on top for good measure, in 3 or 4 months time and we should get a month without having to top up, but I'll probably do the same that month too :).

The winter car bag for the wife is well on the way, Blanket, Thermal socks, Hat, Gloves, and water are already in there. 2 folding shovels are on order, along with hand warmers and over shoe snow grips. They should be here sometime next week.

There's still some stuff I want to put in there but it'll have to wait till I can afford them I can substitute some stuff anyway.

We've done a months food shop today apart from milk, bread etc I managed to throw some more bleach in and some supanoodles not something I'd usually bother with but something I'll start to pick up every now and again, I didn't bother with any beans this time.

The family have asked what I want for Xmas needless to say I have come in for some major stick from them but whose gonna be laughing if we get the power cuts :).

Other stuff on order includes batteries 24 AA 24AAA and no there aren't for the kids toys they are for my new collection of torches (6 at the minute plus one head light) I guess a couple may end up in the wii remotes though.

Oh yes and lists, I've done more lists this week than I've done ever before. I even mentioned camping to the wife she is a long way from convinced yet but give me time.

Today I've been sawing up more kindling with my new, lovely, half-price B&D Scorpion Saw.

I love bacon! And if I could find a long term way of storing it other than by running a pig farm I would be there in a flash. As a compromise, I'm also rather partial to a bit of spam.. So I've been stocking up on PEK 300g cans of chopped pork, on offer in ASDA for £1 a tin, spam is normally about £2 for a small can. So for the moment I'm content that I can wait a few more days for the bacon solution...

That's this weeks prep done :-)

You can can bacon if you have a pressure canner... You lay strips of bacon onto grease proof paper, fold in half and roll up like a giant sausage, put into a disk and ring kilner jar, process in the pressure canner and voila, canned bacon!! But you must pressure can it though for food safety reasons.

My Chickens are going through the moult, just as temperatures plummet... great!

So this week has mostly been spent feeding them with warm food mixed with poultry spice and popping a bit of Apple Cider Vinegar in their water to stop it freezing. Hopefully the frost wont finish them off!!

Other than that, as the tin cupboard in full to bursting this weeks plan will be stocking up the medicine cabinet with OTC medicines and bandages, etc. Just in time for flu season
