This looks like a plug n play set up which although expensive would work for me - the thing is not having the knowledge can cost you £'s in the long run right ?

Great thread though.

I work in a timber mill and learned what i know about solar by reading loads of stuff on the tinernet,,,,,

this is my workshop back up lighting system which cost me about £40 tops........

bigger the battery = longer it will last...

No worries

That little cell charges at about 0.5a.....

So to put 3ah back it takes 6 to 7hours ish

A lead battery shouldn't be taken below 40/50% charge so with 2m ish of led strip it draws about 0.6a

So

Half of 7 ah is 3.5 ah

3.5 divide by 0.6a

Is 5.88 hours run time

Its intended as a power cut lighting system so i can get my preps out the workshop and not fall to my death over crap on the floor in the process

i put the led strip in the mains light fittings to deffuse the light better ...

bit of decent glow in the dark tape on the switch so its easy to see if im in there and the lights go out (no windows)

for not a lot more money a slightly bigger panel and a bigger battery would give far more usability but even i dont spend more then half an hour in there on a "busy" day at home
