I don't think they are a bad idea. I'm from the generation where baby nappies were soaked in Nappisan and then washed, it's only the same idea. Have the Pampers generation took over, or are there still parents who use nappies for their children? To be honest I'd forgotten that you could use a cloth, and of course if it was good enough for the Romans..... :)

And of of the biggest killers of Romans in Rome was Gastroenteritis (caused by bad food and toilet hygiene). Tens of thousands died every year.

So, for those with little common sense, and by way of a disclaimer, after taking a dump (and washing your ass rag) always wash your hands.
My prepping consists of bugging out by bicycle so any comments are likely to be based on that scenario.

I was introduced to the ass rag over on hoodlums years ago, read some funny stories over there regarding it. Working in domiciliary care and having cleaned more than one accident up, I can certainly testify to the benefits of such an item.

Its not as hygenic as toilet paper but in a long term shtf scenerio toilet paper will eventually run out no matter how much you stock up, "ass rags" might be the best way to go unless anyone knows a way in which we can produce more toilet paper.

Yuck!! I would rather use leaves, grass or moss to be honest. A basket of reusable wipes doesn't do it for me, being the woman of the house the thought of them in my washing makes me clench my teeth :o

Surprised nobody has mentioned a Bidet? travelling across India that’s all I had to use, clean effective and no waste, just a wee bit 10mm copper pipe run over the toilet seat with a online tap.

What I described above was in most "hotels" and once your used to using it was probably more hygienic than paper certainly better than reusable stuff,
ugh!!

Yes, a bidet would solve the problem. Too big and heavy to fit in my rucksack though :)

I am really surprised by some of the responses to the ASS rag, when will people learn that disposable is not good ! Disposable nappies are the devils invention.
