I think some people have simply become too used to modern day hygiene standards. Gotta say I love the bidet idea! It would probably be fairly easy to make out of a few scavenged parts in a long term disaster. I may not buy the ass rags afterall.

I have to say that I can't see the logic in using cold water, what value would it be? Have you ever tried to clean faeces off something with cold water? Plus, would it be a good use of a scarce commodity? I have to agree with Lincsprepper, in that we have become too nesh when it comes to personal hygiene, after all it's only body waste. I'm a staff nurse so I understand that I may be blasé about the subject, but I think if it offends you, you had better learn to get used to it.

I agree to wastes resources, any resources is wrong, but I live in the Scottish Highlands with a small river marking the edge of my property, I've got rain barrels to store the almost daily rain. So for us water is not a scarce commodity at least not "grey" water.
AS for cold water not removing sh*t, trust me at a suitable pressure it works just fine, just ask any of the millions of people who use this method every day.

I'll have to bow to your experience Mongrel, having never used a bidet. One question though, how do you get the abundant cold rain/river water to a suitable pressure to remove and clean yourself? Are you using a hand pump outside your property to operate the bidet, or are you intending to rig up the river/rain water to your toilet cistern to flush? In a normal scenario both the electricity and water would be working, I was making the comments based on an emergency situation. I Have extensive experience of cleaning faeces off humans, having worked on an elderly dementia unit for three years; I can see you could clean yourself with cold water hygienically, but I would not want to, especially if you were unfortunate to have to take iron tablets. I'm sure may millions of people do use a bidet daily, fortunately the majority have hot water.

Personally I think when the SHTF the best thing to clean your bottom with would be politicians and local council officials, it may not work to well but the after feel good factor would be priceless

Speaking from experience, the Yellow pages and other phone-books (hacksaw in half if you need to stretch the supply) is good...... Junk mail less so as it tends to be a bit shiny

No argument there but please educate me, iron tablets?? or don’t I want to know!

For us with private water supply gravity feed, pressure not a problem but cold temperature in winter, your right, there would be complaints LOL

I won't get too descriptive Mongrel, and to be honest it isn't really a bad issue if you have your faculties. Unfortunately, my former patients did not. I'll leave it that, but any member who has looked after family members who have some form of Dementia will understand. I apologise to any members who have relatives who have Dementia for using their plight, some may construe my comments to be flippant; I assure them I was not.
