Especially important since the weather is getting colder and we'll be starting to use the fire again.

Also on the list for this week is teaching my eldest (4) about fire safety, he's already pretty switched on, but a refresher from last year can't hurt.

if you have a open fire i would look into a big water spray or afff foam for that room for rapid (but clean ish knock down) (also the 35kva rated ones are safe if accidently used on live electrical stuff)

after a small fire the contents can be wiped up with a cloth.....

with dry powder imagine your son throwing 6 bags of flour around the room and it been blown about by a big fan....

it gets EVERYWHERE and isnt pleasant to the digestive system

Thanks Andy, that's an awesome piece of kit! I'm pleasantly surprised by the price too. I'm not sure why, but I'd always assumed that foam extinguishers were prohibitively expensive.

I shudder to think of the mess my boy could make with just one bag of flour, so I'll be steering clear of powder extinguishers (though I keep one in the car).

That fire thread spurred me into action too!
Just got one of these:

Tiny and stops a lot of cooking false alarms.
I'm also perusing fire extinguishers for house and car.

In anticipation of the big freeze this winter, just ordered 20 litres of Comma -65 screenwash. Can be diluted according to the season so will last me years and got it delivered free for a cracking price online with an additional new customer discount :D
Also got one of these to store in the boot.Folds up very small.Good price.

Powder does have its place (its cold proof unlike foam so ideal for garages and outside storage) but it causes a hell of a lot of damage the latest revison to BS makes it clear that they should only be used in essential areas....

This week has been a slow week for me after a new cooker (but mrs andy is happy) ;)

however i got my hands on a dumped calor gas bottle, got it exchanged today for a full one.. thats another source of cooking for Mrs andy once i get a regulator for it (already got the stove but it works out way cheaper than camping gaz) :D

along with a twin pack of LED battery push "cupboard lights" from lidl to use as emergency room lighting if needed

Well, the tomatoes and apples have now been turned into 8 jars of tomato sauce and 8 jars of stewed apple. The Brambling calls them PDQ food.
