Prepping in Cumbria & is it better to prep as a team?

Post by reakingringpiece »

Hey guys

Great site btw.. Been reading this forum for months now just not go around to join until then, so my first post. So if this is in the wrong place or make a mistake then sorry…go easy on me please J

Just wondered if there is any preppers in Cumbria or in the Carlisle area willing to meet? To be honest feel very isolated at the minute prepping on my own, been doing it for around 3-4 years now on a budget but got a lot of the basics.. Scared more so as my area and the sheeple in it seem unware of what will happen if economic collapse comes! They seem completely unaware they only want to shop and watch sport! So of course I wouldn’t tell them that im a prepper….
:)
I think we would stand a better chance IF we were a collection of people like they do in the states rather than being on your own… ;)

take care everyone and nice meeting you all finally...

Welcome to the forum! It's great that you've joined, and in response to your question, my advice is to keep on joining in - longer term members will want to know something of you online for a little while, before meeting IRL. Just my twopennorth.

Hey Guys

Thanks for the warm welcome… Ja I understand getting to know someone rather than just meet a stranger off the net I wouldn’t want too either to be honest lol

Just was reading American blogs the last few months and they seem to have a much better chance at staying alive when it all go’s tits up than us A: because they have firearms and B: some of them actually team up themselves… I know personally bugging out isn't an option for me so I would rather stand my ground and protect what i have..

I know personally the few people that I have told that I prep they look at me like im insane, so given up on telling people.. My partner at first did but she’s slowly coming around and finally got her to start bringing back food for the store when she go’s shopping so I guess its progress of a sort ..

However my partner she’s doing a psychology degree and is currently in her second year she thinks preppers are in permanent fight of flight mode and we are constantly being flooded with ‘Cortisoll’ which has has now malformed our brains permanently or down to some child hood event that has left us scared!… After this glowing diagnosis I did think about that for a wee bit to be honest and being on some other prepping sites a lot of preppers do seem to react very quickly and over the top to events in the news almost convincing themselves that THIS IS IT ! THIS IS THE START! Etc.etc…

I pointed out to her though not all of us are like that… you merely have to read history to see that societies and structures have collapsed before so its naïve to think this stability we have or relative stability will last for ever…

CJB, yep, I know where your partner's coming from, as I work in that kind of area myself ... but its not true of everyone, as you know. It can be - but in every walk of life, there are people who pursue an aim sensibly, or intensely, or crazily. Plenty of people like pop music (to give a mainstream example) but not everyone gets convicted of stalking their favourite singer

I'm also a historian (amateur) and its inescapable that societies change, grow, decay. One example I've only just got to grips with myself: we think of Ancient Egypt as changeless, a long, long procession of pharaohs ... but even though that lasted 3,000 years, in the middle of that, Egypt collapsed completely for hundreds of years.

Its not all about the big stuff tho: its only a few years ago that we had terrible flooding, and a little while before that, terrible drought. And there are always individual events - illness, house fires, burglaries, that sort of thing.

There are a few users from Cumbria on here that have met up in the past I'm sure.

I wouldn't compare British preppers to Americans, American preppers have a lot of guns but so do many Americans so the need is greater. That said you can get yourself up and running starting off at around £300 including gun, license, and cabinet (some people spend that on an airgun) I know because I was talking to the Mrs and pricing things up yesterday.

Groups are great if you can find one in your area, forums such as this are great for getting to know like minded people that'll give you some insight into whether you'll get on before meeting. It's also useful to potter around youtube, plenty of preppers on there.

Prepping is a useful everyday exercise even if the Hammer never falls, there's always plenty of little bumps in the road of life.

Hey guys,

Thanks for all the replies and points.. very interesting hearing other peoples views on it...

Great to hear your a interested in history arzosah, me too.. and it gives you an insight like you rightly said to what has happened before this cushy wee 'aldi and asda' lifestyle people live these days....

I like I said have been prepping and storing on a budget for around 4 years now but recently I realized I had a major hole in my prepping plan, and it came about by something a completely obscure event.. Next door to me were having a party, I woke up and heard shouting and fighting and glass's being thrown in the back lane which we share with the neighbour... I looked out the windows, went onto the back garden and could see nothing!!!!! Jesus I thought .. That made me research Night vision technology and after many reviews on utube and reviews of the items i came across this site...

http://night-vision-goggles-review.topt ... eview.html

On my budget and a few great reviews I though what the hell ill give it a try, I was very apprehensive as its a toy at the end of the day.. but spent the 35 pounds and got it... it didn’t do the claimed 50 ft range more like 15.. so I then bought a cheap IR torch from china which was 5 pounds and suddenly the range jumped to around 60- 70 metres.. I was shocked! this 'toy' can see in complete darkness with only a fake red led visible.. This shows you that if you do buy cheap and do the research you can find bargains that do exactly what they expensive stuff do and still serve the purpose you intended it to do.. and anything that gives you the edge I think is worth the investment. Hopefully in the near future we will be moving into the countryside out of the city so the night vision will come in very handy indeed.. to see your area without giving up your position

The IR torch uses a 18650 battery and then runs another problem I thought what if economic collapse comes and I cant charge batteries the night vision is useless.. So I came across this site

http://www.instructables.com/id/Inexpen ... y-charger/

Never done electronics, never soldered, never used a glue gun, but ordered the stuff which was mostly from china and after waiting for weeks for it all to come it all works! If I can do it first time it shows how easy it was and anyone can do it!!!! my education is in making computer games and graphics so never touched a soldering iron or anything like that... in short.. now I have a solar powered 18650 battery charger.... I recommend it its very easy and it works great... charged, tested and it really do's work!!!!

as for the comparison between America and uk, yes I agree the dynamics are different but if it dos become lawless which is possible then any edge you have I think is worth it and there is alot of very effective forceful defence tool you can buy legal in the uk and own legally as long as you keep them in your house ! AS for the firearms licence I doubt I would ever get one as I have aspergers syndrome... on the event of economic collapse and potential break down of law and order any edge or any thing that improves your chances of stopping yobs and the mob taking what you have stored a sound investment.

take care all and happy prepping :)
