Additionally - do you think Paris has had an impact on how people understand personal responsibility and preparing for worst case scenarios?

Yes, it's true, we have a paywall - I'm very sorry about that. My name is Stefanie Marsh and you can see my Brussels/Molenbeek article top three pars. Rudolf was the first thing that came into my mind.

What do you think of preppers who have firearms and other tools that could be used as weapons (except pocket knives)?

I still don't understand why there are so few women preppers, as far as I can see from the people I have talked to.

Thank you for that Mumsnet link - I was really surprised to see it, and had no idea.

Any more thoughts welcome. Thank you for all your help so far.
Why just preppers who have firearms ? There are plenty people out there who have legal firearms who wouldn't consider themselves preppers. As for other tools etc, even more so. I have all sorts of tools etc that are sharp/pointy/heavy, I've also got a kitchen that is full of implements that could ruin somebodies day if they were misused, most households do.

Women preppers ? I was surprised by the number on this site, when I joined I assumed it would be mostly dudes, I've learned a lot from some of the women on here. A quick read will let you know that there are plenty active on the forum so unless you're trying to put a square peg in a round hole, you should be able to get a feel for their input.

Not exactly what you're after I think but a friend of mine wouldn't dream of calling himself a prepper but in everything but name he is. I only heard the term myself about a year or so ago (about when I joined this site) but realised I had been one all my life in one way or another. Just trying to point out that the term 'prepper' is such a catch all term, it covers someone who likes to have a full cupboard through folk with camping/walking gear all the way through to the oddballs who can't wait for the Apocalypse (in whatever their favoured way). Its easy to guess which ones get the more column inches. A campaign to encourage people to keep a weeks worth of water and food in the house isn't particularly interesting but if that was your angle you'd probably get more interest from most on here. If you haven't already, have a good look around the forum, you'll see our interests are broad and not everyone is into all of it, 'prepping' really is a broad church.

Are you kidding me??! Every woman is a prepper, including you. Do you shop daily, weekly or monthly? All but daily shopping is surely prepping be it for the week/month ahead. Do you get your work bag prepared in advance or on the fly? We are coming into the biggest prepping event women all over the country, Christmas - it doesn't just "happen" its PREPARED for, dinner, treats, presents etc etc. Do you get what I'm saying???
Behind every great man is an even greater woman. She carried you, raised you and made you who you are.

I empathize Decaff, I'm tending to feel I was right in the first place because simply by joining in as a normal member Rudolf cold learn all she needs to know, she'll see that indeed most women are preppers, I'm a bloke but my wife and daughter are both more switched on to it than either of my sons, which is why I speak up on this thread, many people here have partners who are as involved as they are, just not online, as for weapons, everyone feels insecure at some point whether from criminal or terrorist activity or simply speculating what life would be like during a major disaster, but it is no use thinking that folk are unstable in any way shape or form, there are great pleasures and social activities to be gained by getting into shooting and archery, even martial arts for that matter, being active and reading the relevant threads would have gain her all the knowledge she needs, and even be able to see the thought process people go through on subjects like home invasion, burglary, and worse.

I know what's going through Rudolf's mind and how newspapers would like to present preppers, but I would ask this, somewhere in there there is a human being under that reporter skin, what would you do in these situations? Have you ever felt vulnerable and gone to bed with so much as a hammer to hand? What would you do if someone was bashing down your door? Then remember if we think those things hypothetically we're doing just that, if you're looking for paranoia I'd suggest the very newspapers you work for may be the best source ;)
I have a strategy, it's not written in stone, nor can it be, this scenario has too many variables, everything about it depends on those variables, being specific is not possible.

Well, it seems the angle Rudolph is going for is GI Jane. I do wish you journos would appreciate those folks are fictional characters and have nothing to do with the average person on the forum. Everyone has been pretty accommodating and as per usual, the press have shown they are only after one type of story.

I think it's time to lock this thread.
