Well, regardless of the responses you get, I hope you make a success of the venture, sounds like a fun hypothetical exercise. Good luck!
Thank you unsure, I hope it turns out well

Take into account the basics preppers needs food, water, shelter and fire( heat and light included) then there are things like transport and defence , most don't have .bunkers or even bug out locations most will bug in and fortify there homes many have already started by adding simple rain collection systems , solar panels ,sewerage digester systems etcetera along with that gardens are added along with animals
One of the most important things most of us will do is get to know our local area, were things are, were is a good place to fish/trap/hunt this knowledge is vital as is building a knowledge of the plants in that area what can be eaten and what can't be, what can be used as medicine etc
Any way hope some this helps
It certainly does help tigs, you all seem to agree that £5000 is low, which I’m inclined to agree with, what would you all say is a reasonable amount? The simulation is set up so that the user can select whether or not they have a family (Maximum 10 people) however budgets will remain unchanged, if you choose to go it alone you still get the same budget as a 5 person family, do you think that’s right or should the budget vary? How much has family size impacted your budgets? or do you simply spend what you can regardless? Also, rain collection systems? that’s awesome, I had no idea but that does sound amazing to me.

EndIsNigh - as Tigs has indicated, if your simulation takes place in a bunker, then by definition it isn't physically realistic to the people in this forum. If you want the *psychology* of it to be realistic, then there's still stuff you could learn on here. There's nothing wrong with it not being realistic to that extent - John Wyndham, John Christopher etc aren't starting from a totally realistic premise.
I just want to point out something from this thread, that *may* illustrate what we're on about when we talk of mistrusting media types, I'm not sure. When you didn't get the response you wanted to your original post, you seemed to drop into sarcasm on the second post. You had a few days there where you could have been interacting on the forum, but you didn't use it that way, actively researching. You chose to post only on your intro thread. That's a very, very small example of the kind of thing jansman (a moderator) is referring to when he says you seem to be only taking, not giving.
If you want to make your simulation as realistic as possible (and its great that you do!) why don't you experiment with fulfilling some of the topics - how *do* you purify water? What’s it like to rehydrate dehydrated food that you've made yourself?
And if its set in a bunker, how was it constructed? Is it an underground shipping container (a fantasy we often see)? Is it a kit some millionaire has imported secretly from the USA? Is it an ex-government facility? An disused rural pumping station? Just because the original premise isn't entirely present day accurate, doesn't mean your simulation shouldn't be internally consistent, in fact its all the more important that it *is* internally consistent.
I hadn't seen this thread till today, when I noticed a newbie describing themselves as a "researcher". I clicked on it then as I enjoy the research I do for my own blog (in my sig). I'd been a contributing member here for a couple of years before I started the blog, though, as you can see from the posting dates here and on the blog. I thought this was another prepper who liked finding stuff out. I hope you *do* research - one reality is that this is the weekend, and the week, before Easter - people have busy lives, gardens and allotments to tend, children to raise, jobs to go to (hopefully - economic collapse being what it is). We fit prepping into real lives in real communities.

Hey Arzosah,
The bunker was just an example, the simulation will take place in different settings with different challenges depending on the users opening decisions, for example, if the option they have selected is economic collapse then the simulation would take place in a normal home, with the first objective being to fortify your location.
If it is set in a bunker then construction wise I’m unsure (I'd left that decision for another time, as that would impact artwork decisions) however shipping container sounds good, however I imagine that it would offer little protection in terms of radiation/fallout (Not sure how many shipping containers are lead based?) What would you suggest? If you were to create a bunker, what would you choose?
I would also like to gauge all your opinions on Friends and neighbours, using economic collapse as a jumping off point, if you and your family were bugged in, and a friend or neighbour came seeking shelter, how inclined would you be to letting them in? Would you see any benefit to this (other then inclination to help out a friend in need)
