No, it's just got easier.
Looking round at the supermarkets, they are suffering from a fairly big drop in income.
(Our collective hearts weep, poor little B's that they are)
The result is that there are a lot of loss leaders on offer and I'm snatching them off the shelves before someone else does.
I'll give you an example. Yesterday, one day only cut of Corned Beef from £1.75 to £0.99p.
I bought 24 cans.
I just hope their sales continue to drop, I'm doing very nicely out of it thank you.
Prepping getting harder !

I'm going into Boston tomorrow so if I spot anything else I'll post it asap.

It doesn't get easier when you are facing a drop in income of nearly £1000 a year. Which is what the 'average' family is facing. And that's just on today's prices. What happens when petrol and food goes up again, which it will. I don't think it's getting easier for anyone.hazmat wrote:Harder?

And winter, Itsy. If elect goes up -and gas, then we might be in for a miserable winter.

It's not a question of IF, but more WHEN!diamond lil wrote:And winter, Itsy. If elect goes up -and gas, then we might be in for a miserable winter.
Re: Prepping getting harder !
My gas and elec DD wen up £8 / month last week
Like Hazmat says though there are still bargains to be had, just not enough to outweigh the costs going in the other direction

Talking of gas and leccy - link here to a uswitch list of all the discounted price plans that are coming to an end over the next two or three months. Give you a bit of time to get sorted.

Yep, overall money is tight especially for utility bills BUT consider this.
I'm spending when I can see a bargain and stock piling my excess.
My utility bill comes in regular as clockwork. Yes it's going up but do I keep cutting back on food to pay them? Once i see a bargain, i splurge a bit cutting back on one of the few luxuries in life I have.
Take my pal.
His cutting back because of his wages not going so far meant he's stopped buying fish and chips twice a week and reduce from a packet of 20 fags a day to 10 ciggy's a day. His wife now goes to the hairdresser once a fortnight for a shampoo and set. He's healthier, she still is an idiot!
They still shop weekly so he's moaning that food bills are going up every time he goes to the supermarket yet a stockpile for him and his other half is an extra 6 pack of beans.
Now winter arrives.
Your utility bill probably like mine takes off into orbit.
All year food prices have been increasing but I've got a stockpile of food, brought when it was cheap, NOW, TODAY, before another 5% or whatever is added to it by inflation.
What do i worry about when it's cold? heating bills?
Well yes, as usual, but because I'm not spending on food and toilet rolls over winter I've got a bit extra for the bills.
I've been doing this for years snapping up bargains and stockpiling when i see them.
My day to day standard of life has dropped without question but I'm not in the red come spring.

Re: Prepping getting harder !
I hate DDs, work only on cash when the bill comes in. Our bills stay more or less constant because the biggest usage is coal - stove is on all year. Re elect, I put by a bit more than we need, and that way always get change back when the bill comes in. I use this change, plus any extra money we ever get (HAH) to go to Costco and stock up. We are on pension credit, which is just the same as Income Support and not great. But if you're organised you can do it.
Re: Prepping getting harder !
Like hazmat I agree there are bargains to be had - Lidl has amazing really nice tins of sweetcorn for 39p each sliced mushrooms and carrots 24p expiry date 2014/ some 2015 and great taste, they have tins of new potatoes 22p but they taste horrible to me. In summer tea and coffee tend to go down in price and is an excellent time to buy, I purchased a year's worth of tea last year as iceland had box of 420 for £3. Fruit and veg are cheap in summer so if you make your own jam, chutney's etc its a good time to buy and make.
We have one fast food treat per month, I colour my own hair and I don't need a hairdresser to wash and blow dry my hair! we buy monthly as it costs cheaper.
I plan to see if I can buy a couple of portable gas heaters for winter because IT IS becoming unaffordable to heat the home - when I grew up we used paraffin heaters to heat the room we were in alone - I fear alot of people may need to resort back to this at this rate
