That's another great idea ,Frnc wrote: ↑Tue Aug 30, 2022 6:05 am Re docouments in a metal box, I have a different approach. I keep mine in a shoulder bag, one of the slim designs that you can wear under a jacket. This hangs on my bedroom door. I keep my wallet in it when I'm in. Also a pair of bluetooth earbuds and some AAA batteries for my head torch. If I ever have to bug out, my phone fits in a separate pocket.
I do have a metal box, kept in an area away from flammable things, but it's for lipo batteries. Maybe I should put copies of the documents in it. I'm not sure it would survive a house fire.

This is the one I got, was £14.99 at the time. There are loads of similar ones about. This has 4 pockets: the phone pocket at the top, the two zipped ones on the front, and a large zipped one the full size of the bag that unzips down the side.Paracord1945 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 30, 2022 8:40 amThat's another great idea ,Frnc wrote: ↑Tue Aug 30, 2022 6:05 am Re docouments in a metal box, I have a different approach. Okay, I got ya. Pretty cool. I do carry a rucksack with a spare pac a mac and a first aid kit, spare shirt in case my shirt gets torn or bird shit on I can change it over. So having all that and the shoulder bag all at once would be a bit too much to carry all at once, cumbersome more to the point, I like to be prepared but as lightweight as possible whilst still allowing room in my bag to carry my lunch and anything that I might buy whilst I am in town etc. If it works for you then great and it looks pretty cool too. I just don’t think I would benefit from it at the moment.

I normally use a rucksack myself, or a pannier if I'm on my bike. Mostly the shoulder bag just keeps a few things handy. But in a bugout situation I would wear it as well as a rucksack.Paracord1945 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 30, 2022 2:00 pm Okay, I got ya. Pretty cool. Okay, fair enough, cool.
I carry a sort of bug out bag with me when I am out and about, it has a basic survival shelter, survival kit, paracord and a small first aid kit and a chemlight. It’s better than nothing and yeah I know it might be a bit over the top to some and I get that.

Paracord: My plan is having a fireproof box for originals of documents (one of the briefcase sized ones large enough to fit A4 folders) and an encrypted USB with digital copies as part of my Every Day Carry.
That way the originals are protected but should they be lost I've got backups.

That's a good a idea too. TBH I don't really have any important documents to consider saving or futureproofing and much of it is on the cloud too.
