What Preps are you doing this week? Part 9

I bought finings today to start racking a gallon of Dragons blood wine and a gallon of cherry mead. They are both recipes I found online.

I’m still blundering about making wine, it’s more hooch than wine but it is still a skill I want to learn.

I think making hooch is going to be one of the handiest skills out there, the way things are going
Has anybody heard of diesel heaters ? Apparently used foir garages and caravans? You sit them outside and the heat comes in a window or something like that. Husband was visiting somebody yesterday who has classic bikes in his big garage and he uses one of these heaters.

The basis been they are all china ripoffs of ebespatcher heaters ..

2 or 5kw (ignore the 8kw it's a 5kw with a sticker saying 8..)

Biggest issue is exhausting it safely the exhaust connections / pipework all really need to be outside

And the exhaust gets very very hot

Has anyone else tried the easiest hooch about? Based on nothing more than supermarket grape juice, wine yeast and a 2l or 5l supermarket water bottle.
I found the instructions and had a go over the summer. It worked pretty well. The results are a very basic red wine which is drinkable but I think is more of a cooking wine. (Fussy so & so here)
The nice thing is that the only specialist item you need is the yeast. The rest can be found in the supermarket.

Should have seen the telecoms people trying to get across my dad's drive took them two days to cut a 8ft long 1ft channel with a pecker and big plant machinery...

The access pad was over a foot thick and full of rebar

Think tradesman hate my dad he's done almost everything in his life ... For concrete knowledge he worked on the M62 as a surveyors gett ... Then on the concert gang so he stands there hands on hips why are you not doing it this way?

He run in with the same gang at my sister's why don't you run the cable to the house down there... We can't... Why .. bit of concrete in the way .. chase it out oh we are not allowed.... Well your not lifting the glazed drain you'll crack it... Go get a cup of tea or something I'll be back in 10 minutes....


He returned with a 9" grinder diamond wheel took him longer to plug it in than chase a channel ..

Contractor oh we aren't allowed to use those..... Those refering to the 9" grinder. ......

My mate makes his from kits whereas I make mine direct from fruit. There’s tons that grow wild about me but it has been hit or a miss (Rosehip being the worst culprit) but I’ve been more successful with frozen fruit from Aldi and Lidl. One year I fortified my cherry with brandy, that’s been the best and a pear turned into a pear sparkling wine although I have no idea how that happened so it’s all trial and error at the moment. I quite enjoy the process and the wines at least look the part although they don’t necessarily taste the part. It’s still cheaper than most hobbies and if I stop making them, at least I have about 9 gallon demijohns for prepping backup

You might like my apocalypse wine recipes Just a bottle of ribena or a couple of tins of peaches or fruit cocktail . Add sugar and yeast for refreshing summer wines
Those 5l water bottles make great free demijohns.
