Murphy Strikes

Post by Ogre »

So, there I was. Finally got a fridge freezer, manhandled it across the deck, carefully let it down the steps. Carried it to the bottom of garden area 1. Then discovered the damn thing was 8"to tall for the area of the prep shed it was going in.

Moving it to the centre of the shed is out because I have to dismantle all the racking and move the preps in situ. (rather a lot of foodstuff).

So. It now has to live outside the shed and I'll camo it with a tarpflex tarp when I can to match the rest of the shed. However.

Do I

a. Keep it upright, fix a huge hasp and staple to each compartment and take advantage of the existing baskets and shelves. (the downside being it's 2 meters tall and can be seen over fences)

Or

b. Build a legged frame and lay it on its back. Hasp & Staple the compartments again, but have in effect a 2 door chest with separate lids. Again camo tarped for weatherproof. (spray the sides with carpet adhesive and roller the tarp on)

Or

c. None of the above ?

Your input is greatfully received.

Hmm..... sounds a bit daft, but can it be 'sunk' down through the flooring? Obviously, the 'hole' would need sheeting out with damp proofing, etc. Bit of a mission I know. How about raising the roof line up to accommodate? This would give more space above for storage?

I am assuming you are using it as an insulated 'box' for storage, and not actually wanting to plug it in and use it as a fridge and freezer?

If it's on its back, will rainwater get in? Or will you be fixing a tarp over it like a 'roof'?

and if this is how you're intending to use it, will it lay down inside the shed?

Ok. Sorry all.

The prep shed sits on the site of our old above ground pool. So you have inches of stone dust. Then ground sheet, then a load of ballast. Sinking it will be a bitch, plus I lose the use of the bottom compartment.

No electrics, it's out gassed and I was going to rack it as a tool store.

It would have gone on it's side, but the area has now been filled with steel lockers, that have been laid down , tiered and bolted together.

The seals are fine and should keep everything waterproof, but all our preps get bagged and sealed anyway.

Then I would lie it flat on its back. You don't want it poking its head above the fence, attracting attention and inviting people to have a look inside!

There we go. Opposite the entrance to the prep shed (arkwrights).

And as it's huge, white, out of place and lying down I've named it after me. the ***** Chest

I'd lie it down as well. Keep a low profile at all times
