I got some Nomex overalls off ebay, dirt cheap £26 *now £35). https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/324230801342 I was dubious, so I cut a small piece off where there is spare materiall folded back near the lapel. About 3 cm x 1.5 cm. You can't see it missing, it's underneath. I tried lighting it with a lighter. I held the flame onder the edge for several seconds. It didn't catch fire or melt. I did this several times. Eventually it was charred, but never caught fire. Finally on the last try, when it was all charred, the charred material did catch alight.Arzosah wrote: ↑Fri Jun 23, 2023 6:47 amHi Andy, the first aid stuff you posted in the bit that I snipped was interesting, but as for purchases, I'm *really* interested in this, the nomex fabric - on googling, I can see people sell it in lots of places, including Etsy, but I don't know enough about it to trust any information they give me. Do you have a trusted supplier? Or any recommendations?Yorkshire Andy wrote: ↑Thu Jun 22, 2023 10:01 pm Ordered some new work shirts if that counts nice thin nomex fabric for some protection from fire / welding work
The material did NOT melt. It just went brown after being over a flame for several seconds.
My conclusion is, this is 100% genuine.
Note that there are different types of Nomex. My one is a light weight version (4.5 ounce), 93% Nomex. I think most of the other 7% is kevlar. It is bit thicker than a dress shirt I would say.
