Thank you pseudonym. She was so young (to me), its really got me thinking about prepping for individual catastrophes, not just society-wide ones.

Sorry to hear that, condolences. Yes, happened to me last year and I had to rush out and buy a suit, I have nothing like that. My sister actually got to my mum's about 24 hours after we heard the news, and she lives abroad, and I don't think she ever flies. Would take me longer than that just to pack and sort out train tickets and itinerary. It took me 9 hours to get there for the funeral. There were train strikes going on then as well.

Absent from the forum because of a family bereavement - I knew about inquests etc informally, but learning in more detail and I can't visit because I'm catsitting from Sunday. Working on bits of projects, both prepping and not, to pass the time, but only things I can abandon instantly if needed. And my go-bag has never been so important.

So sorry to hear you're having this time hope you are coping best you can

The go bag is always where I can grab it along with all the documents we may need in a place i can access easily I often say that when I think I've seen heard or experienced it all something else comes to get me so I try to be ready
I've sorted the one for the car today taken some weight out of it realising its me who will be carrying it

Got a olight javlot mini torch tiny little thing... it's rated to have a 600m spotlight well it probably does just had it to the allotment and took a walk to the council rec which corner to corner is about 150 meters using Google maps to measure it ... back fence lit up like daylight

Just assisted the Yorkshire air ambulance and police mine was brighter than anything they had bar the helicopter landing lights fortunately all was good in the end

I spent my day, tidying up my greenhouse, getting rid of the dying plants, and just as a trial planting some seeds. I tried lettuce beetroot and spring onions and also some Coriander and parsley. It will be interesting to see if I get anything off them. If not it's no great loss

Started tidying the shed ready for winter ...

Stock taking on consumables (petrol/ gas/ paraffin etc)

Need some more diesel and a top up on Unleaded

Generator pulled forward from the back ... test run drained the carb let it flush for 10 seconds to get any stale fuel from the carb ... started second pull first time since spring... it's due an oil change but no Biggie I keep oil on the shelf it's not easy to get out now but far better than what it was don't want it too easy if someone breaks in they can earn their loot ....



Checked the fire fighting kit that lives in there and all is in order (visual checks of all extinguishers tested the gauges and weighed the co2 with the suitcase scales )

Diesel heater got topped up and run need a new inlet hose but no panic yet...

Tomorrow I might tackle the other side / work bench .. it's a "bit" of a mess and take stock of bio ethanol / DIY consumables (how often do you run out of stuff like wd40 and the like ) pays to keep a good stock of home repair stuff from waterproof tape for emergency repairs to screws / fixings / bits of timber / plumbing bits all of which are scattered on the bench / shelving I need to bring some order to the chaos

Had been planning to cut and process more firewood but pulled a muscle in my back at wrestling training yesterday so lighter jobs around the house today I think. Maybe build a couple more raised beds or may just retire to the shed and Potter about, bliss

Well, all my preps are being used right now the cat has come to stay, for 2.5 weeks while his owner's in New York Fluffy black. He's inspected my preps for his stay, and found them to his liking. A couple of windows now have chairs in front of them, side-on, to make it easier for His Majesty to ascend to the windowsill and inspect the outdoors

Currently batch charging rechargeable batteries got another charger giving me the option to charge 12 batteries at once....

Pays to have all spares charged ready...

Also pulled any key kit together which I run on rechargeable cells and giving them a top up before the weather gets bad

Dehydrating Cayenne Peppers and chilli's from what ive grown this year. Definitely have enough to last until next year. The one's that are still left unripe on the plants will go into the freezer. The dehydrator is going 24/7 atm. I have done loads of apples and some tomatoes.
I have a few jars of roasted sweet peppers in oil, but I wish I had done more of these.
My wife has been making blackberry jam and tomato sauce.

Started to pull the green tomatoes from the ones outdoors as I saw a smidgeon of blight on one plant. Most are blight resistant and still healthy.
Made a Hot Green tomato ketchup using green tomatoes and chillies from the greenhouse. I thought it was pretty sipcy but the sone thinks it is mild....
MrGB is finally fitting the solar panels to the shed this week for the offgrid workhop power project that has been on hold for ages pending health and weather managing to coincide.
