Ordered stuff to bolt fire escape ladder to wall
Rawlplug R KER 2 part epoxy that uses normal sealant gun
12 mm drill bit
12 mm hole cleaning brush
10 mm x 130 steel threaded studs
I got the brush off ebay and the rest from tradefixdirect
I can use the anchor plates that came with the ladder.
I have yet to decide exactly where to put them. I have 10 studs, so can put more than 1 each side and use a bit of climbing rope to extend the ends of the ladders. I might go for 2 each side to be safe. Depends how hard it is to drill the holes. I can always get an sds bit if I'm struggling.

When you do it drill and clean all the holes fully BEFORE opening the resin pack have your studs cleaned and degreased (brake cleaner) and marked with the insertion depth before you do anything else
Once you introduce the resin to the mixing tube it doesn't take long at all to set and block the nozzle
And have some builders wipes at hand to clean any extruded resin spills from when you push in the studs
If your roughing it, Your doing it wrong

Yeah, good advice. Hadn't thought about degreasing. Will make sure I'm well prepared. I don't think insertion depth is too critical. They are 130mm long. The bit only goes to 135. But I want about an inch sticking out to hold a hanger plate, washer and nut. I've just ordered some cord and a couple of extra hangers. Forgot the crabs, doh! Might get those off Amazon to save postage. Cord is 8mm, almost as strong as half rope. Half ropes are for when you climb with 2 ropes, which is pretty normal. So if I have 4 anchors, it's fine.Yorkshire Andy wrote: ↑Sat Mar 22, 2025 12:58 pmFrnc wrote: ↑Sat Mar 22, 2025 12:19 pm Ordered stuff to bolt fire escape ladder to wall

I don't have brake cleaner but I have meths, think that would be ok? I could use a microfibre cloth.

Meths will do it just to get the tooling / shipping oil off (stops them rusting on the shelf)Frnc wrote: ↑Sat Mar 22, 2025 1:35 pmYeah, good advice. Hadn't thought about degreasing. A bike pump with a air bed nozzle is good for blowing out the dust too

Water....the jerrycans, that’s what I need to do, and empty and clean out the muck in the waterbutts, our backup.

They might be heavy but the 25l fit the space well added bonus is the cupboard under the stairs is concrete so weight isn't an issue
I've also got a drum tap so if needed decanting/ using is easy

Main storage are 25litre jerrycans in the garage, I have a 12v submersible pump from a camping shop I can drop in them,
but have got some 10litre cans which would be easier to handle (and by mrs P, on an everyday basis).

Yet another food shop. I now have a mountain, well small hill of sugar. Just hope that the garden produces as much fruit this year so I can make loads of jam, a good source of vits in winter. also got more baked beans and tinned soup and porridge oats than I ever thought I'd have. next trip will add to the teabags , there's no such thing as too much tea.
