2 degrees here snow on hill but I'm gobsmacked ..hundreds of homes literally up the road from me without gas ..again
When there were thousands affected the other week it was chaos and that was someone chopping the pipes by accident
This one is that water has got into the gas pipes
Ongoing chaos now as it's freezing cold ..
I'd not heard of gas going off before I dont think till about 3 weeks ago when the 1st Incident happened
And every home has to be checked all the gas has to be switched off etc then checked again when it comes back on
When it did happen I went and bought the gas cannisters I needed and the gas cylinder was topped to full thinking sometime in the future because of this therell be a rush if it happens again
Didn't think it would be twice in a month ...
Too close for comfort this one its literally 10 min up the road

Absolutely Baltic in Edinburgh just now and snow is on the way, you can feel it. Last night, I had to take a few drams to keep the chill away, the cauld appeared to be affecting my nerves for around 90 odd minutes in the evening.

Hopefully it will be warmer in Canada, America and Mexico next summer.

It’s been a sunny but cold day, 2C, in the West Midlands.

Turned the thermostat up at night to 16.5. Living room was 16.8 this morning. Turned the TRV up in the prep room, and also the hall one a bit. Ran dehumidifier in prep room for 2 hours. It's bone dry and warm in the middle of the room now. Not much more I can do about the cold corner and its corresponding high humidiy.

Got a big delivery including a load of Nescafe Azera at a really good price, Clinel hand sanitizer wipes, Spice Tailor long life chicpea masala x 5 and a few other bits.

Cleaners came today, did a good job. And I got my state pension for the first time! I think after April they might start deducting tax off one or both of my private pensions, as they can't deduct if from the state one. I will still have to do self assessment, anyway, at least for this year.

Alternative heating is one often overlooked a couple of electric heaters can save the day if the boiler goes on the blink for example

A calor gas darkec type heater £80 in bq and a full bottle of butane can give about 3 days constant heat on full

As examples
Before you get drawn into bio ethanol or diesel heaters
If your roughing it, Your doing it wrong ;)

Lack of planning on your part doesn't make it an emergency on mine

Sounds fascinating - and too physical for me these days. Will you be the instructor or a student?
I was the student this time and would have qualified as an instructor.

However I was removed due to an eye injury that got infected.

What a shame! Very sorry to hear that - I hope you got medication that cleared up the infection. Can you go on that course the next time they run it?

Last year, Dec 27th, my boiler was marked 'do not use' by an engineer, and I had no C/H for a week. Freezing outside. I had two Dimplex radiators, and got a third, as I had two lodgers. They are very good heaters. There was actually nothing wrong with the boiler, but it took time to verify, due to it being Christmas/New Year/weekend. Expect the unexpected!

2,000 litres of water so far removed from the gas mains
The local pub threw its doors open
Theres many a merry warm person still "getting warm " in there today enjoying the atmosphere and real fire and a tipple or two ...
In fact Northern gas board has asked that people perhaps go home as their engineers are waiting to go into homes to make sure reconnection has hapoened safely
