What Preps are you doing this week? Part 13
Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 13
I have a BOB and we have a box in the truck with equipment and supplies in but I have decided to pack another big storage box with additional first aid, a small tent, an additional stove, torches, batteries, a woollen blanket, the wind up radio, food and water etc which we could grab if required. We are putting the house on the market shortly and need to relocate all of the food supplies "somewhere". We will still need to be able to access them easily for use and rotation. This is likely to take at least a whole weekend, but we need the store room returned to a useable bedroom. All of our wardrobes are already full, we cannot store tinned food in the garage due to moisture and may just need to resort to under the bed boxes and plastic storage buckets. I am reluctant to eat down the stores as it has taken several years for me to get stocks to a level which I am mostly happy with and which I rotate, with only the occasional tin or two being missed. Out of the whole putting the house on the market, buying and selling malarky, this is what I am most worried about and need to remember that boxes full of tinned food will be quite a weight when we or the removal folks need to bring them downstairs.
Growing old disgracefully!

My philosophy there would be that the risk of major SHTF in a given time window of a few weeks of months is currently pretty low, so having a smaller stock of consumables wouldn't be a biggie. I'd be more bothered about maintaining things like fire escapes and smoke alarms.Medusa wrote: ↑Sat Jan 10, 2026 9:15 pm I have a BOB and we have a box in the truck with equipment and supplies in but I have decided to pack another big storage box with additional first aid, a small tent, an additional stove, torches, batteries, a woollen blanket, the wind up radio, food and water etc which we could grab if required. Two is one and one is none, but three is even better.

Also this week i am looking into cash storage of cash and valuables.
I'm getting a cheap safe off amazon as a decoy and then a second more secure safe for the actual items we want secure. Haven't yet dipped into gold/silver storage or carrying much cash but I plan on.

I have added 5kg of red lentils to the stocks.
Sainsbury's have a couple of excellent special offers available for Nectar card holders at the moment. 5KG red lentils for £6.50 and 10Kg Salaaam brand Basmati rice for £11.00. 5l of Sainsburys brand veg oil is £6.30 which also well priced for stocking up.
I feel a bigger coming on........

New iphone is USB C. So I changed the charging plug in my BOB to USB C. I also had to order various cables, such as A to C, for charging phone off powerbanks, and C to micro. Also more C to Cs. I keep 3 of each cable but only one plug in my BOB. The smallest powerbank I have, has C in and out, which is useful. This would be my first choice in an evacuation. It's still a decent capacity, but is a lot lighter. I also use it for travel. For travel, I will just take the official charging plug and 2m official cable I have in my room for day to day. Powerbanks live in a metal box in the kitchen for fire risk reasons.
Got some AAA batteries coming next week on Amazon Subscribe And Save, to replace some old ones in my BOB.

Replaced the split fuel pipe on the gas generator, set up and started testing our new Aferiy solar power station along with the smaller 100 model, had a delivery of more hay and straw as the horses I am (unexpectedly) looking after have eaten their way through most of my animal feed supplies (four blokes slipping, sliding and falling face first in the ice and mud as we pushed them all under cover would have made a cracking YouTube video!). Prepped the car ready to collect my partner from the city when she returns from the UK this weekend. Continued breeding the goats as they come into season, collected a couple of lambs, set an incubator full of Orpington and Harko eggs, pressure canned a couple of crates of potatoes and finally enjoyed some sun today as the temperature managed to get well above zero before the latest snowfall arrived.

Dug the delta max 1600 out and cycled the battery cooked breakfast on it via the induction hob then used the remaining 85% on the tumble drier (heat pump type) it's just about dried a load . Now back on charge got to 95% and now in cell balancing mode I'll let it get to 100% ready for the end of next week's potential cold weather
If your roughing it, Your doing it wrong

More of a safety prep weekend for me, fitted fire alarms in the children's bedrooms (already have nest ones in hallways).
If I get chance I need to see if I can get the Solis inverter backup plug to work
