I tried Tramadol once and my god - I floated all night, huge smile on my face and deeply happy  . In the morning I threw the packet out - that stuff was far too good - must be highly addictive !

Careful with Tramadol. It is highly addictive and coming off it can cause severe depression. Mr Jellybean has refused it point blank after the time he had getting off it after a shoulder injury.
We may need to start considering the homegrown herbal options as a country if industrial pharma can't cope. But that will require law changes.

This sounds terrible for everyone :( I didn't realise quite how lucky I am that I don't take anything regularly :( if I'm out all day, I take a just-in-case loperamide  and that's it. Still haven't started that CBD for arthritis, though I may need to soon, I'm only getting a max of 5 hours a night sleep, its not really enough.

Years ago I was really into herbal medicine. I grew a lot of herbs and made tinctures and infusions etc etc but I have to say that very few of them worked well. Thyme for cough mix is fabulous. Honey for wounds likewise. But most of the traditional old cures were a disappointment.

The business model under which pharmacies work also adds to the problem. If there is a sudden price rise in a drug, then the pharmacy may not be able to fulfil the prescription economically, as what it gets paid (the drug tariff) is less that the retail price of the drug.

Of ordinary commercial teas, mint and chamomile were always good for settling my stomach, I can vouch for them with personal experience.

I work in community MH and I specialise in addictions albeit alcohol rather than prescription stuff so every time I go to the chemist, they say ‘you know you’re only meant to take these for three days’.

The amount of steps I take which is around 25k a day, I couldn’t function without a couple in the morning and usually one or two around 3pm. It’s rubbish getting old.

Thanks for pointing out the shortage of co-codamol as I'm another one who can't take ibuprofen due to it interacting with another drug I take. I'll be at the pharmacy early next week and will make sure to try and get some.

On the topic of prescription medicines, recently, while packing to go away, I realised that my grab/hotel/hospital bag didn't contain my prescribed drugs although it has some paracetamol in there. Although I don't suppose missing some of them for a few days would matter, there are others I don't want to do without. I have now made good the omission.

It's true, getting old sucks.
