Oh dear trade you doing that Vs lopping 4' of hedge from behind the garden ..... Nb checked for birds nesting not that any would survive our 3 cats let alone the other half dozen that pass through regularly which sit on the shed roof warming there backsides on my solar panels and use the hedge as a climbing frame 😂
If your roughing it, Your doing it wrong ;)

Lack of planning on your part doesn't make it an emergency on mine

Windows and doors open this morning, banking some free cooling (13° outside). It's all being stored in the bricks, plaster, timber and furniture. And of course the air in the house starts cooler.

Will shut them by noon as it will be 21 outside. Not worth opening in early evening, as it will be 24 outside at 7 pm.

Of course it's different for different windows. The back bedroom faces S, and still has cool air coming in at 09.30. Whereas my window, just a few feet away, has the sun on it now, so I've shut it.

Have taped 2 pieces of white card in the bottom half of my bedroom window that just happen to fill it. Had them for years behind the sofa.

Living room's a compromise, as I have a plant that needs light.

Bit of a prepping fail myself yesterday ... I carried on with a trip to London to see a friend living on the opposite side, London is the only place we can currently reasonably meet. It was horrible :( hot and so, so noisy. I visit London regularly, museums and all that, mostly using Victoria, which isn't exactly a backwater, but this (Waterloo) was terrible, it hurt my ears. I *did* have sunscreen. One of the stupid prepping fails: I wore sandals, and little stones kept migrating into them, I'm actually limping today  it was impossible to clear them out and stay cleared, such is the state of the bleeping pavements.

So, so glad to get home!

Some people hike in sandals, but they have fairly thick soles. Not cheap either. Personally I have a men's Ecco, here's one of their women's ...

Here's proper hiking sandals

These are classified as sandals, but are fully enclosed with mesh at the front, and have an open back.

This A/C is using way less power than I expected - less than a third. Admittedly today is a mild test.

My room was 23.5 so I set it to 23 as a test. My thermometer now reads 21.5, so it's come down 2°. Clearly I can set it to 25 tomorrow, as it seems to overshoot a bit.

Energy used in an hour is 0.35 kWh. Machine is rated 1120 watts.

Of course tomorrow will be a hotter day, so it will use more, but I'm pleased anyway.

Only snag is when you turn it off, room heats back up even faster!

Not a prep for me but I checked in with my uncle down in Suffolk to make sure he has fans etc. Which he does.

He’s only in his 70s but I like to check in with him.
