What Preps are you doing this week? Part 13
Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 13
If there was a prep that gave me more time in a day I'd certainly be up for it. The past few months have been pretty hectic. Work has been coming in faster than I can keep up , my wife has been busy with work and her selling . We were perhaps a little short of actual cash as most of the work was paid by bank transfer but hey ho it's all money. Any spare time and I've been in the garden , yesterday was work till about 2 , cup of tea and out transplanting and weeding. More wood has come in and needs cutting and stacking , but scrap metal has gone and brought in a few more quid. Short of having to order a few more brushes for tools everythings going well...

Had to have a new set of hinges fitted to one of the upstairs double glazed windows. It had been getting harder to close then eventually jammed. Chap fixed it quickly and passed on a few tips.
Said broken/jammed hinges were his most common fix. Said that people pay a load of money for double glazing but forget to oil the hinges so they gum up and eventually break. Particular problem down here as the sea air causes them to build up a layer of oxidation. Recommendation was to give all hinges a quirt of wd40 twice a year - once at the start of the "season" to get everything moving, then, more importantly, a good squirt in autumn to coat the moving surfaces, so they dont gum up whilst the windows are not being opened. So that another item on the "Things To Do Periodically" list.

The solution to (almost) everything.....WD40....or....Gaffer tape.
Does it move ?, No,..should it move ?,..Yes...WD40.
Does it move ?, Yes...should it move ?...No...Gaffer tape.

Well it looks like summer is slowly coming back . Just got the fans out the loft one is broken (casings cracked) so little lad has gone up with daddy's new fan (20v battery powered "site fan" something like an 18hr run time on speed 1 off a 4ah drill battery so it'll do him tonight
guessing big sister knew one was broke. She was very selective over which fan she didn't want...
(the 2 were bloody identical) so a trip to home bargains tomorrow lunch time (I can see it from work)
I'm up to 3x battery fans all using the 20v packs
Way I see it silly hot weather grid falls over I've got 3 fans to keep us all as comfortable as possible with the solar been used to top the battery packs up if needed during the day

Remembered to add insect repellent, sting cream and sunblock to EDC/GHB in car.

It's getting hot. My room was 24.5 last night. That's not too bad, but I don't want it much hotter. I used an empty duvet cover, and added a cotton throw later.
Currently got windows open trying to cool it down a bit. I also have a fan trying to blow the warm air out of my room. I'm borderline about using the portable AC today, will see how it goes. Will definitely use it in a couple of days as we are forecast 26-29°.
Need to remember to water the plants in a bit, as I sort of got out of the habit with all the rain we had after the last heatwave.
Don't forget, when it's hotter outside than inside, SHUT THE WINDOWS! It was borderline yesterday, so I didn't bother, but I will do during peak hours today.
Another thing to remember is heat accumulates over several days in the fabric of your house as well as the air temp. So if I do run the AC, my room rebounds a few hours after switching it off. But hopefully to a lower temp than it would be otherwise. And of course that few hours is when I'm asleep. The main thing is the room is cool at bed time so I can get to sleep.

It's mid 20s down here, but Sunday-Thursday is 29-32 degrees
I have a usb powered fan from last year that I didn't unpack, I'm still using my mains powered one, when I really, really need it. That's an issue if there's a power cut during the really hot weather Y/Andy

Got a few chores out of the way while it's still cool. Gave all the plants a good drink. Rotated mattress and changed sheet and protectors (I use two, as I occasionally have had reflux). Put the sheet in the washing machine. It's still a bit cloudy so I've not bothered with blinds yet. I've cooled my room 2°, but it'll probably rebound when I shut the windows. Just got to hang the washing out.
NB, when testing the outside air temperature, remember a breeze will feel cooler than it actually is. I either go off the Met or use a thermometer if it's not obvious. I will shut them soon.
