GeeGee get on the net and find yourself a “Loss Assessor” he will be on your side and argue/fight your case with the insurance.

Forecast here 'only' 25 today, but 32-33 for a few days.
My room has been around 23.5 for the last 24 hours, ie it's accumulated a bit of heat. Woke up early and opened my bedroom door and other windows.
Will probably run the portable AC today. I have two strategies...
1. Moderately hot days (eg 25°). Run til 8pm, take out hose/kit and open my window. There will be some rebound before bedtime, but overnight I get cool air.
2. Hottest days (with warmer nights). Run til 10pm. Leave hose/kit in, just pull dust sheets out of sides (I am using the hard rectangular kit). Hopefully the rebound will be to a lower temp that it would be had I not used AC, and I will be asleep anyway. Expected rebound is around 2.5°C. So I run my room at about 21.5 earlier.
I don't run it at night as it's too noisy, for me and likely neigbours too.

NB, next few days will break records in some places, and come close to record in others. Manchester Met forecast is 30, 33, 33, 33, with night minimums 18-20. This is pretty brutal. God knows what it's going to be like in Paris and elsewhere. Could be 4 days of 40° highs.
There are a few factors that determine how bad it is.
1. Daytime high
2. Night time lows. Very important for respite from heat, and sleep.
3. Number of consecutive heatwave days.
4. Humidity.

Was supposed to be going up to London on Tuesday. Met offices are saying 38C. Stuff that - will stay down here in our nice cool predicted 34C...

That's a wise decision. I was in London on Thursday doing touristy things, and it was more than 10 degrees cooler than that, still plenty hot enough.GeraldTheBonzai wrote: ↑Sun Jun 21, 2026 9:15 am Was supposed to be going up to London on Tuesday. I really hope it doesn't get to that level of temp.

Don't understand the logic of these "heat alerts". Down here, Met Office are saying 30C for monday and tuesday, and we have an amber heat alert. But they are also predicting 34C for Thursday, but no alert.
You can understand why people take these alerts with a pinch of salt..

Could be just not updated for Thursday yet in your region. It varies by region, and the factors are not just maximum temperature. The UKHSA/Met Office system is now impact-based, not temperature-based. They explicitly assess:GeraldTheBonzai wrote: ↑Sun Jun 21, 2026 9:52 am Don't understand the logic of these "heat alerts". Daytime and nighttime temperatures.
Duration of the heat.
Humidity.
Likelihood of health impacts.
Confidence in the forecast.
Thursday's Amber Warning covers almost all of England south of Bury (north Manchester). https://weather.metoffice.gov.uk/warnin ... 2026-06-21 If you are on the south coast you might be just outside the amber.
Manchester is now Mon 29, Tues 32 no warning, Wed 34 amber, Thu 35 amber.

Just popped out and inside the car was somewhat oven like. I have a lifepo battery jump starter that i normally leave in the boot. If it's going to get as hot as predicted then decided to bring it inside, because inside a car just sitting on the drive,it's going to get stupid hot.
