We are expected to hit 39 degrees for 3 days this week. One of them is my last "office day" I am not looking forward to travelling in that.
We notice a definite reduction on the heat coming into rooms where we have fitted mylar sheets to the windows. (1st floor maisonette so this has to go on the inside. The window itself gets very hot but the heat doesnt go past the mylar.
Will be adding some washing up bowls for keeping feet in cool water. Freezer is full of ice and lollies. I just hope we dont get any power cuts. Which reminds me I must dig out the little invertor for running a fan.
What Preps are you doing this week? Part 13
Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 13
Nothing higher than 20 degrees forecast for us. That suits me. We'll still have the curtains drawn closed in the living room or it will overheat in the sun. And yes, it does make a difference. Most of the heat is kept between the glass and the curtain rather than getting into the room itself. You can feel the difference if you open them again.
Back in 2022 when "the whole country" was sweltering, we had a normal sort of summer with the temperature around 16 degrees most of the time. We've moved since then but are still in the north (the real north, not north to a southerner) so will avoid too high temperatures again.

Well we're on the move again. After 30 years way out on the moors, then 3 years in a cosy village bungalow, now 2 years in this sheltered housing flat
But this will be the easiest one - just from the first floor down to ground floor as I can't manage the stairs now. Still going to be a lot of upheaval though so we're just getting a wee local firm to do it for us. Husband not happy about that but he can't run up and down stairs at 80 with a bad heart. So I need to shove all the extra food into anonymous cardboard boxes away from nosy eyeballs
At least the lady is leaving her her carpets - we're leaving ours too - and the flat is immaculate and round the other side of the building where there is more fresh air and less heat. Just a bit daunting when I can hardly walk at all and husband isn't good at following orders... be easier to train the cat!

It's 5 years since you were on the moors? Good grief. I still miss the hand-made soaps you used to do, believe it or not, I gave some away as parts of a Christmas hamper, and they were mentioned specifically in the months that followed ....diamond lil wrote: ↑Fri Jun 26, 2026 6:08 am Well we're on the move again. Well, hope it goes well, and you can restrain husband from joining in with the movers. More fresh air and less heat also sounds good, and good for your mobility too. Best of luck.
