Still a bit miffed that we did not move and perhaps gave up on our dream too quickly. I am a big believer in what is meant to be though and think that we should perhaps stay where we are to keep an eye on my Dad who is a sprightly almost 88 and remain close enough if we are needed in an emergency. I do love our home, but it is not our bungalow/cottage which is likely to be needed in the future and we cant downsize around here without having to take out a mortgage. Husband is about to reduce his working hours to 4 days which is well deserved although I have told him that he needs to cook tea on his day off, that will be beans on toast then! My food preps are still in boxes under various beds, in wardrobes etc and it is driving me mad. Although labelled it was far easier having everything stored on shelves, so the next job is to get some new storage with doors so everything is more discreet and looks tidier.

Growing old disgracefully!

First of the month, but I'm not spending at the moment. I did order some Imodium to replace expired/used stock. Concentrating on building my savings back up. They got dangerously low after I got a load of decorating done. But mainly it was other big jobs earlier like the roof.
This month I get the state pension twice, so I can save extra.
Went to hospital yesterday for kidney stones x-ray. No significant change, so was discharged. Got a taxi. Couldn't get any mobile data outside hospital, so went back to the entrance, got free wifi, and got an Uber. You can pay for it in the app when you book it, and leave a tip in it later, if you want.
I took a little bag with me that I bought for gigs, as most ban rucksacks these days. Most minimalist bugout bag ever. Worked well. It's discrete enough to hide under my t-shirt. It's a Fjällräven High Coast Hip Pack. Some people wear them as cross body bags. Not cheap, but is very good. In it I had earplugs case, handkerchief, wet wipes travel pack, Imodium, hand sanitiser wipe (individually wrapped), pair of disposable gloves and reading glasses. Room to spare, but too small for even a half litre flexible water bottle. It will fit a packable waterproof jacket though, and that takes up about half the main compartment. My windproof jacket takes up about 3/4 . Also has front and back extra zipped compartments. I had Imodium and reading glasses in the front.
Have got the lawn and hedge cut. Did them myself, saving £60 on the hedge. Arms ache a bit.

Slim enough to be hidden underneath a t shirt sounds interesting - when I go to London, I've taken to putting my house key on a lanyard, not in the home-sewn bag I wear cross body. It means that if I do get the bag stolen (the strap might be cut, or wrenched off me) I could still get in the house, not have to change my house locks etc). But a bag like that would be great, my ordinary little bag could just carry a packed lunch and a water bottle.Frnc wrote: ↑Wed Jul 01, 2026 8:32 amI took a little bag with me that I bought for gigs, as most ban rucksacks these days. Maybe get some sort of stealth running bag. Basically a flexible stretchy tube with a zip and buckle. Can carry a phone, keys, money. Or a stealth passport bag.Arzosah wrote: ↑Wed Jul 01, 2026 9:54 am Oh! No, that won't be hidden under any t shirt I have, not even a flowing onehttps://www.themountainfactor.com/produ ... MuctS_SnFE

Here's a running one. I think I used this successfully at Download. Is unavailable, but you can look for something similar. Is only about 1 cm thick before you put things in.

Thanks for that! It isn't urgent, but I really like the idea.Frnc wrote: ↑Wed Jul 01, 2026 10:19 amMaybe get some sort of stealth running bag. Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 13
Currently on with renewing my first aid at work which is timely whilst having my dinner at work my new boss had an minor accident which had the potential to be more serious. whilst he was very grumpy / embarrassed about all the attention / help he received the important person ( his wife) recognised the fact that I was the one who knew what to do
currently 60% in on the 6 hr e learning course (not covered what I dealt with on the e course yet
) before the classroom next Tuesday annoyingly it won't let me skip the videos as I know the answers due to doing it for the best part of 15 years it's a bus mans holiday but a refresher is always good
If your roughing it, Your doing it wrong
Lack of planning on your part doesn't make it an emergency on mine

Got a lot of jobs out of the way, on the basis that it's better to do them in summer.
New hinges on jammed window.
Boiler service.
Had the jammed stopcock replaced, plus two leaky taps.
Both waxed cotton jackets reproofed. In this heat, it's so easy. Leave the jackets and tin of reproofer wax in the sun for a bit. Wax goes all soft and just dab it on. Cotton soaks it up and then leave the jacket in the sun again.
