shot ,butchered and eaten , deer, wild boar, wallabies ,kangaroos, rabbits ,most bird species, all manor of fish and crustacea, snakes and goanna. theres not much i wouldnt eat if i had to. even if you are a vegetarian at the moment ,that may change very quickly should your stomach be in knots through hunger.. dont mess around with catapults, crossbows and longbows...... get a shotgun !!! even the dimunitive.410 will ensure you have a larder stocked with birds and rabbit sized creatures. it will even knock over an intruder if your in the confines of a bug out location. .......
theres no recoil and cheap to buy. bows etc need practice, and decent hunting skills to use effectively, but with a shotgun you can pick it up in just an hour at your local clay pigeon club. dont under estimate how difficult it will be to look after yourself and family when it really does hit the fan. :) :) :) make it easier and get some decent firepower.

My grand parents owned a farm, we all grew up shooting and hunting/fishing. Rabbits, hare, squirrel, pigeons, duck, grouse, partridges, pheasants, deer, I've killed, butchered, cooked and eaten. I've tried nearly everything classed as edible that lives off the coast or in the rivers over the years. To be honest the only thing I go to rivers for now a days are crayfish, I mostly do sea fishing love mackerel but I'll eat nearly anything thats a good size. I also go crabbing and razor clam hunting.

im a fully certificated firearms and shotgun holder skippy, the powers that be will only licence those deemed suitable. theres absolutely nothing wrong with enlightening those who may not know ,about the food gathering benefits of shotguns. there is a lot of mis_information out there about gun ownership. owners are among the most responsible and law abiding people in our society. stand up and be counted.. there are currently dozens of very popular sites out there that just talk about firearms and they have no problem at all mentioning that very nasty word SHOTGUN !!!!
i think a bigger problem than mentioning the S word is talking about harvesting animals with crossbows and longbows , both of which are currently highly illegal. but there is much talk on this site about doing just that, not just post shtf.

I have been hunting since I was a youth, back when I lived in the Yorkshire dales and me and my friends would go camping for days, hunt and eat birds and rabbits with air rifles (but anyways that's another story) I still hunt know I help a local farmer with pest control, am a member of both game and deer hunting syndicates and often eat the meats I hunt!

I am with dan on this a lot of people have a lot of misconceptions about guns, the law and hunting in the uk.

Spot on Dan...

The mere mention of the humble side by side never fails to bring out certain peoples inner..... :tinfoil

And I’ve said it before…

I think 9 times out of 10 the people doing the fear mongering are those who’d like a gun but can’t be arsed jumping though the hoops, either that.... or their mrs won't let them have one.

So begins the cognitive dissonance.

Definitely a good point about bows and crossbows too,

I'd be warier about them than I would any guns.

After all, any preface that you'd only do such things 'after the SHTF' isn't worth much if some chav decides to start taking pot-shots at the local wildlife a few minutes from your house...

I gutted fish a few times way back when I was in the Scouts...

Would love to go on some kind of bushcraft course and learn to make snares and skin/gut larger animals.
