Fireworks Anyone?

i think in a real emergency ,if i had flares ,i would be using them . i`d rather face the music after then end up dead for the sake of breaking the law . i know the first reaction would be to launch life boats ect but i`d think you`d be found quicker by the helicopter if you have a ground flare aswell.

I think a firework is a really good idea to use as a cheap substitute for a safety signalling flare like Hobo listed ... I presume it wouldn't last as long, but I guess you'd buy quite a few (I've never, ever bought fireworks! I have no idea how much they are )

I have met the owner and family and fired off/burnt many a firework/smoke bomb etc........ at bushcraft meets, a great way to involve all the kids ( and the children of course)

There are some good videos on youtube on how to make smoke grenades. Grenades probably isn't the best word to instill safety issues but you can make them in your kitchen safely enough. Whilst they wouldn't be as loud or high as a roket, they would almost certainly get you noticed. And they are pretty safe. (as safe as somehting like that can be)

I used to carry miniflares many moons ago (when they needed a FAC to own) until I tried them at the end of their life one Guy Fawkes night. Only one worked and it was pitiful. I bought another pack and tried them straight away, five of the eight fired and were also pitiful, easily missed.

Since then I have carried a standard day/night flare which I am told is more visible for searchers.

The difference is that the miniflares were designed for alerting about a problem. The day/night is designed for location.

I have fireworks that are 20 years old and still work, used to love repackaging them amd mixing them up. But ones like the airbombs and traffic light smoke have practical uses

Y not use a strobe light when it gets wet it will still work it can be lift in your bob and forgot about untill needed .
unlike fireworks when they get wet they are no good and when you use them you need to buy more .

If we type 'distress flares' into google a list of UK stockists should come up, they're not illegal and are bought mostly by sailing enthusiasts.
We can signal for help in any situation (left) or if we haven't got any flares we can build a fire (right)..

Each year I save a pack of rockets and a few roman candles / shot & box type fireworks in a old ammunition box in the shed, got quite a collection as of course they don't get used but you never knew when they could come in useful. Test fired a 4 year old+ one last year and it went off fine
