Yes but that is a huge use of valuable energy when you boil it, when fuel will be a precious commodity after TSHTF, and the rsain water could have just evapourated from a local lake full of dead things and stagnent before it runs down your roof into your gutter where the dead rotting blackbird is wedged. You dont use energy unless you have to so if you have a good gravity filter you are saving huge amounts of gas / timber/ coal.

I would drink filtered water from water butts without concern so long as it has not been in the butt for months.

I drank water from my butt over new year , as we had no water in the whole town, although I did boil it first. I am quite pleased that I have a huge butt, rather than a small one , although i would not like the thought of advertising that because I would not want anyone touching my huge butt in an emergency,,
