Smoke alarms... Have you tested yours lately ..?

Post by Prepbug »

Not entirely about prepping but more of a safety issue. As smoke alarms are part of what I do for a living and everyone has then ? :!:
NO I am not selling anything, just trying to help by posting this, and as they say on radio 1 I could feel warm and fuzzy that I may save a life one day.

its a surprise how many smoke alarms simply do not work. Dead batteries, or just bollards, excuse the French, ok spell checker corrected me,lol.

Takes two minutes to press your tester button to see if they work. Press hold a few seconds and it will bleep loudly then let go. Done
If youre getting an annoying short intermittent BEEP every few mins or so it means the battery is duff, replaced it don't remove it they cost about 2 quid for a new one.

Regular checks can and will help to save lives, you, your family all for a couple of quid.

If youre a prepper then prepare your home against smoke and fire.

Got gas fires, boiler ? Install a carbon monoxide detect in each room where you have gas appliances.

7 out of 10 smoke alarms I have tested have noor flat batteries. If you're in any doubts get a new one or two and install them on the ceiling on you're emergency evacuation routes, hall wall, stairs, landing.

Just a reminder as a lady round the corner died recently because of non alive smoke alarms, just think she could still be alive if they had batteries in them.

Mine gets checked nearly every weekend....

Not because I am mad, but because our downstairs alarm is near the kitchen and if you have the grill on and one of the kids comes in the bloody thing goes off. Ours are wired into the main alarm system with battery backup so do check the batteries are good every few months.

Your post is EVERYTHING about prepping. Survival is about NOT dying. Which is why smoke alarms were invented. GREAT POST! :D
In three words I can sum up everything I have learned about life: It goes on.

Personally I disagree with the press the button to check your fire alarm, for the simple reason if I'm correct the only proves the batter is live and the sound mechanisms works and not the actual mechanism that detects the smoke, which is the hole point of having a smoke alarm in the first place
I think all the manufactures should recommend actually burning something to test it
