Got a Duronic Hybrid (Wind-Up, Solar & Rechargeable) AM\FM Radio, Light My Fire 12,000 strike firesteel and a Morakniv
Bushcraft Black carbon steel knife (Fixed blade - so not for EDC!). My plans are still only beginning to taking shape, but I think these acquisitions will fit in nicely. I've never used a firesteel before, but I have next week off work so plenty of time to give it a try.

Jansman, thats really nice!

I finally collated and printed out a list of radio frequencies for common radio stations - I don't listen to the radio normally, and this is so that *if* there was a big power out, I could get the wind up out and try to figure out what was going on.

And I took advantage of the last day of the Holland and Barrett penny sale - you have to use the sales for staple foods, so I got walnuts, sunflower seeds and brazil nuts at half the inflated price they use for these events. Still cheaper than regular prices tho.

Then off to Sainsbury - I don't use huge amounts of tinned food, but in building up the stock for about a week of *just* tinned food (as opposed to the dried beans and peas, and ready to eat nuts I usually eat) I discovered I *really* like tinned tatties for a quick and easy lunch. Bulky, but I don't care, they're very slurpy :)

Purchased a pack of 7 cigarette lighters which may last me a long time as i don't smoke :)

Purchased a hand held grill thingy which is there for outdoor cooking and may double up as a pot stand thingy for the fire pot of the kelly kettle.

Purchased a pack of 2 mess tins for outdoor cooking.

Stocked up on 4 gas cartridges for the briefcase stove for when I don't want to use alcohol to cook with and I need higher temperatures such as for potato griddle pan cooking.

When you think about it, for such an amazing tool lighters are incredibly cheap!

Well its half term this week, so I'll be off work, and the weather's going to be passable to good, so I'm going down the allotment to prepare it for planting next month. Today been tidying the garden out so I can organise where to put some planters for some veg at home. Growing stuff in two places seems like a sensible idea. If one crop fails/gets destroyed by pests or people, I have a back up. (Not that I have much space in my garden - thats why I have an allotment now :) so it'll be a container garden.)

Other preps I have done is rotating and checking my jars of preserves, chutnies and relishes. 1) to keep it all in date but 2) so I can eat some!!! Thats the good bit.

While in Lidl today I picked up a 3-1 torch device. It plugs into the socket and has a motion sensor, great for the middle of the night. It automatically lights up if there is a power cut and then it is a torch. 2hrs battery life when fully charged. Cost £7.99.

Will probably get another 2for around the house.

Also this week they have welly socks for sale -a prep I've been meaning to get. :D

As I am in bed with a bad cold that I think I have been coming down with for weeks, there is little more I can do. However, learning and revising can be a part of it all. So I have been using my phones internet access to revise fire building techniques.

Have spent today and yesterday clearing part of my garden that was completely unused, chopped down a rotten/deseased tree and chopped a load of wood for burning, put in the shed to dry out! next weekend I will build some more raised planters for this part of the garden to get growing more veg :D
