You've hit the nail on the head. In the book it was people they had known for a long time not just met on an Internet forum
They had to start somewhere to know each other (uni) to find people with similar interest, common goal, why can`t we start it here? We got time on our hand too...Would make me feel better if I have a plan C, like this... Meet up, lets see if it works...Try.
Yes, but you want to get to 'know' people and how they think by their posts in here, surely, before you meet up. However, we have new members who post once about wanting to form a preppers group/alliance - whatever you want to call it and then NEVER post again!!

Ok, got your point, but if this site is not the place to try it, than where, or how?

I didn't say that this forum wasn't the place. What I was trying to say is that there are some people who join, in their first post they are asking for members to join their group or are looking for a group to join, but they make no effort to become part of this forum. They never post again so how can anybody get to know them.

I personally think it unwise to think about joining a group until you have some measure of their prepping/long term outlook from their postings.

I have been a member for a loooong time and it was only last year that I met with 4 members of this forum, I was happy to arrange a meet based on their posts. However there are a few that I might not make an effort to meet based on their posts.... :|

However this forum has a mixed membership, and not just people planning for a post apocalyptic world. Shtf means different things to different people and its unfortunate that Doomsday preppers have put an ugly slant on a very practical topic.

Sure. If You are an established member + there is a mutual respect for each other + You know each other (any way) for some time + info about others from their posts.
I think I got it what You are saying.
By the way, how was the meeting? Positive? Anything to share which is not private? So we can learn from it. Regards.

We meet in a small pub/carvery for a Sunday lunch. I felt it was very positive, a great, informal way to get to know people face to face. We chatted prepping a little, work a little, personal stuff a little.

Recently we met with the same people (and 1 new one) for the third time.

We are hoping next time to partake in a fun activity for all the family eg outdoor laser tag, some people have suggested making it a weekend event and camping out. :) I wouldn't have done that on a first meet!

I fell into prepping in a big way from meeting people at bushcraft Meets.

As there is a cross over of skills in both areas, it just came naturally to talk about it, albeit in a guarded way to begin with.

Having contributed to posts and threads and met several times, we now chat happily about all kinds of stuff around the fire of an evening, and not a bad word said from the non-preppers. They even have some great ideas from an outside perspective.

Between us we probably have at least one member on each of the UK Prepping Forums. Funny how we all seem to get along in the woods

Hmmmmm.....?
My thought exactly Nick. Tenner a month is nothing for a great solution (safety in numbers etc), and it's a superb idea Mogs. Me and Mrs Trotsky would definately be in. I'm looking forward to seeing where this one goes.

Thanks, I completely agree with the comments about "getting to know" people first, I started this post because it was a simple daydream idea that popped into my head, and thought it was a pretty cool one! I would love to Eventually meet up with some of you and discuss common interests and such, unfortunitely there have been no meets close enough to me for me to be able to attend with work/home commitments etc! I genuinely believe that something like this would be a great thing for us all to benfit from, not solely for SHTF situations but for weekend/week getaways, bushcraft sessions etc, a place for like minded people to retreat to and share information and skills! I think I said in a previous post that if this were to become a reality that looking into an agreed method of holding the savings would be a must and agreed apon by all involved parties, after all if not everyone was happy from day one it wouldnt be a good starting point! I am prepping for those times when I need a "back up" whether it be a loss of job or TEOTWAWKI!! it keeps my mind at ease knowing Im doing everything I can to support my family in any situation! I have started saving for a plot to persue the "good life" and although it may take me many years in the current climate I believe that it is worth the wait. Ive started growing my own fruit, veg and herbs and am always looking at new ways to provide and recycle. Hopefully one day we can have a get together and a good old chin wag to share ideas and such. :D

this seems a good idea on paper . some were away from it all to relax ,shoot, build a fire ect .
as for who holds the moneys that are put in , the easiest way i think would be to decide on 2 or 3 people who must all agree on when and were to spend it and agree with the bank that no cash with drawels can be made unless all parties sign and then only a bank transfer . that way its all tracable .
YES i walked away mid sentence , you were boring me to death and my survival instincts kick in .
