It really is, isn't it :( Your stoicism is astounding, jansman, I think you and your wife are amazing. Since you've got the meeting with the undertaker (!!!) on Thursday, and your radiology and chemotherapy start next week, can I *please* ask you to have some time together with your wife, going to a favourite panorama and taking your favourite pie with a nice brew, something like that? Or a full family get together with different people bringing different food, so it doesn't all fall to you and your wife to provide? It will set you up!

And, erm, today is Valentine's Day - I don't know if you're allowed alcohol or not, but if you're not, get someone to go to the shops and get something fizzy - water, tonic water, lemonade, whatever, and have a toast with one another! These things are preps too.
Stoicism? Reality really. No time to waste, so I am not worried about what cannot be changed in my body. To be frank, the drugs to stem the damned Tap Dancer makes me feel worse! Therefore the upcoming treatment has no fear coming from me. What will be will be.

Regarding Valentine’s Day,it’s something we have always refused to pay über prices for! My dear wife will get flowers towards the end of this week. I generally buy her some most weeks anyway. :D We will get a takeaway curry from our local restaurant on Wednesday too. We saw the owner on Saturday, and we told him we’d leave it until then as we know he’ll be busy. Lovely bloke he is. Also, Wife and me are not bothered about going out and such. As long as we are together,we light the fire, eat a nice meal, and watch films and such. Indeed she asked me if I wanted to go on holiday anywhere. Nah! As long as I am at home, then that will do. That pleased her,and that pleases me! Job done.

Oh yes, I am allowed a drink. It’s not slowed me down. There’s always a bottle of wine of an evening. My Oncologist asked if I smoke? No. Never have. Drink? Yes. Do I stick to the limit? No. After all,it won’t kill me!, In fairness to the doctor,it did make her laugh.

Anyhow. Everyone stay cheerful and positive. Don’t waste time. Xx

Jansman ...Good on you...youre a inspiration...
Hope this week you feel some peace with all this organising ...
I know all the undertakers / registras etc with some of the work I did ..done a few humanist funerals etc I could tell you some stories !
They call in to see me and mr GG quite a bit
The amount of people who come knocking on my door after they see the cars leave to see if mr GG has left the mortal realm ..even had a bunch of flowers left outside door and a tub of chocolates :) :)
Yep I've had empty hearse ..long back undertakers car all with the names of the various companies on them and the pork pies and sausage rolls and sandwiches that are left over from the funeral they have just done ..all with permission of the family of course ..they aint nabbing them..nice bit of cheesecake last week ...

We find a lot of laughs in a lot things we probably shouldn't ..like the look on peoples faces when the undertaker pulls up ...but like you we hope that time will be kind and even though there is just never enough of it ..we want more
Mr GG did the same ...sorted what he wants and laughed saying he knows he's leaving it in good hands as it was my job
Thanks ! :))
Enjoy the curry and wine both of you ....

No beer for me I've had killer tooth ache since Sunday night... The prep of a couple of days of amoxicillin when they changed Mrs a to a different antibiotic paid dividends .. dentist lanced the abscess looking at a root canal in two weeks time.... Joy...

So amoxicillin and metronidazole for a week... Lucky me

Having antibiotics in is a game changer, isn't it ;) Good luck with the treatment.

Anyhow..... What preps am I doing this week....
Speculatively I applied for a couple of part time jobs this week and wrote out my CV. Applied to some agencies.
Resisted the urge to plant or sow anything.
Apologised and said goodbye to my poor dead garlic, which didn't survive planting out :(
Drowned one indoor triffid in soggy compost.
Pulled up one of last years late carrots. Was surprised it was still a tiny carrot and hadn't rotted.
Resisted, some more, the urge to plant or sow anything.

Thanks. It let me get 24 hours ahead of the game ..

Picked up a couple of extra torches from the Esso petrol station tonight guessing they bought the rack of torches expecting power cuts.... they'd reduced them 99p for a torch ok the batteries probably cost more than the torch but 99p fairly bright led chip jobbie similar in size to the led lensers... Don't think I'd survive rough treatment... But shtf it's a good barter product or just give it to a neighbor etc to curry favour ...

Stopped on the way home last night a lady had come off her bike..on the cycle path .. There was 3 people "helping" as I parked in the pub car park (safe place) as I went to my boot I saw the couple whip the blanket away leaving the cas uncovered and the other lady looking confused as heck.... Turned out the couple couldn't stay any longer and didn't want to loose their blanket  the other lady was a nurse blooming cold wind so I handed the nurse two mylar blankets from my fak... Lady on the floor was a bit shook up "why are you being so nice?". Because I used to do a lot of mountain biking and road riding I always stop to help a fellow cyclist. Nurse was happy enough to wait with the lady and I made my excuses and left her to it

Oh hum..... So they'd stopped to help and were maybe a bit emotionally or financially attached to the blanket. Can't blame them for wanting it back, but surely could have swapped phone numbers with bike lady to get the blanket back later.
How good are those mylar blankets? I can see them keeping wind and rain off, but are they really effective to keep you warm? compared to say, a bath sheet or overcoat or crocheted blanket. If you had access to all of those, which order would you rate them?
Was at the A&E last week and the patient was given what the nurses called a 'bear hug'. A sort of inflatable paper quilt connected to a fan heater. What a great idea.
Anyone got any idea what they are really called, because I can't find them on amazon?

Mylar/space blankets reflect heat due to the silver coating. They must be effective, people have used them for decades. They are also very light and pack very small. I always have one in my first aid kit. Not the main house one, the one that I used to take hiking/climbing, or now have in my bugout bag. There are youtube videos where people test them by sleeping under them. You can get ones that are folded in half and taped so as to be a sort of emergency sleeping bag.

They work to a point , it's warmer than not having one , keeps the wind and rain off you can have a lovely fluffy blanket but in a breeze it's as good as useless as the wind just rips the heat away..

You can get better compact blankets such as the blizzard blanket or the mediwrap but they are bulkier

The sol survival bivvy or a bag type are probably better but if you need to keep the casualty still............
