Live like that anyway! Only heating is wood fire (logs from wood), don't use the cooker etc in kitchen; got propane and cooker in 'conservatory'. No freezer - use far too much elec. That sounds interesting cpslashm, got a link for these gens? Considered that some time ago, trouble is getting the phases in sync. (50 and not 50 to 100).

went off half cocked there - I'd put it through the wall, even if it's 2ft thick consisting of stones and soil, it'll be easier than making it watertight through the slates.

You might get water leaks without flashing. Myself I'd keep as much pipe inside (angle it) to give off heat. You need a 'top hat' on it as well; rain water corrodes well in the acidic conditions inside the fire (they all have mild steel fittings). Seen somewhere a pipe wrapped around the flue to hea...
