On bigger knives, parangs,kukri's etc, i use wet and dry sandpaper,resting on a book.You can really follow the contour of the blade and get a very good edge. I use 800 1500 2000 2500grit papers. https://youtu.be/vplOsEUgwIg here's a link to a good video

Water has always been an issue for me and to source it i think you have to remain flexible.Have been buying the 15L bottles from amazon for a tenner plus just got two 100L water butts and hooked them up to the roof down pipes. also bought a sawyer mini filter which i think are excellent little things.

Im pretty much the same as you,personally i dont think there will ever be a serious SHTF national/global event in our lifetimes.Of course thats not to say the world doesnt have its problems right now as clearly it does.Also,im not saying there isnt a chance that we are going to suffer a harsh winter...

Apart from the obvious steps of locks on doors,padlocked gates etc,probably the best way is hiding in plain sight,not drawing attention to yourself or your home,looking as desperate as anyone else if things ever got that bad...

For the first time,(rather stupidly,) i actually made a stock list for all the food ive been buying.Its very easy to get carried away,especially when your just doing your shopping down town and start putting things randomly in your basket but to be honest,think ive done pretty well with all the stuf...
