Re: herbal solutions

This is one thing that I'm seriously interested in... and also seriously lacking in knowledge about too. I always admired Ray Mears knowledge about flora and fauna, and his ability to just pick something up and declare that this is great for toothache/mild pain relief/antiseptic property/constipatio...

Re: Sorry to be a noob, but how to sharpen knives...?

Whetstone and dry stone are great for producing a nice sharp blade. You might need some patience and some decent co-ordination though as you need good technique, keeping the right angle and getting a nice motion going. There are plenty of good videos on youtube you can check out to investigate the d...

Re: Polish Puma backpack

I must admit that does look a little smaller capacity then advertised. You may be right in thinking about a 50 litre, as wulfshead said at the beginning of this post his 60 litres does the job for a weekend away for him... and likewise I have a 65 litre that sorts me out for a 3-4 day weekend away. ...

Re: do you include neighbors?

I guess it would depend on what you are prepping for. I mean in the situation of power outage, hurricanes, flooding, getting snowed in etc, it's kind of a short term crisis and usually neighbours will band together and don't mind helping the vulnerable and elderly. In these kind of situations your n...

Re: Dark Days Ahead

I find this thought quite scary really, I mean when you think about it nuclear power stations would be so vulnerable. They can't exactly power down and turn of all electronic equipment. Even if they have spare computers/circuit boards on standby, with this event lasting six days they still wouldn't ...

Thanks for that Andy, I think I will have to grab some of that, I can think of plenty of useful applications for it.

Re: What are you dehydrating?

I have read that as long as no air gets to it and you keep it in a dark place then it will keep for years. Look on youtube there are 100s of videos on dehydrating and storing. Cheers Kizzie, looks tempting to me. I intend to bug out if things get hairy and if I had to do it for a while then any fru...

Re: What are you dehydrating?

I've enjoyed reading this thread as it's something that I hadn't considered. I love the bits of banana and apples that you get in some cereals (although I imagine that this is instant freeze dried) It would make some great trail mix though to snack on when on hiking about. Would I be right in assumi...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week

I went for the High grip stuff (think emery paper anti slip stair case stuff) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PHOTOLUMINESCENT-GLOW-IN-DARK-ANTI-SLIP-TAPE-50MMX1M-/181572412922?pt=UK_Flooring&hash=item2a468f25fa That's great stuff that Andy, could be quite handy when camping and waking up in the nigh...
