I had a bistro stove in the last house, it was great. Just don't want to get one unless I will really need it, as nowhere to store it, this place is jammed solid
If you don't have space get one of these I'm sure you can find room somewhere
I can get them locally 7 quid for 4 and 12 cans for £20
And most know Im not a massive fan of the. Till I found the mix gas ..... Do t be fooled isobutane still freezes
It's confusing, they quote EN 417, which seems to be the spec for the backpacking style ones.
EN 417 is a European Standard concerning non-refillable metallic cartridges for liquefied petroleum gases. The standard specifies material, construction, inspection and marking requirements for cartridges with or without a valve,
(Faster to copy and paste off the web than write it out)
Backpacking canisters also say EN417. I know wiki say the thread is actually Lindal B188 valve, and that the spec also includes pierceable non-resealable canisters. But it doesn't mention the long thin ones. Are all long thin ones also 417 then? Are they are different thread? I'm sure I've seen pics of long thin ones used with remote backpacking stoves. But I thought you needed an adaptor.
Edit. Ok I think I found more info. EN417 must cover the long thin ones as well, but they have a different valve to the backpacking ones. The long this ones I believe are called CP250, Aerosol, nozzle, hair spray, 220g butane, bayonet, butane bottle. https://thenextchallenge.org/guide-camp ... canisters/

Could you buy a shed - do you have room for that in the garden?

Having chimney swept next week ..same company and man been doing it 14 yr ..last time he went mad yelling shouting at me ..my heart sinks when I see your address ! Its always filthy is this chimney ..I hate coming here ..look at this ..two loads . If you move dont pass this number on ( they fitted the blooming fire all those years ago )
So ..rang another company explained and said its going to be dirty ..he said yep its my job ..
We will see if he goes off on one
Looking at jackery portable power stations but ..I've no idea whats best ..would want one with a plug socket in it as well as the USB..its a bit of money to fork out if I get it wrong ..so any suggestions would be appreciated
Pseudonym has got a couple of Jackery's, I'm sure he'll be along soon to offer some insight. I am still um-hing and ah-ing about one, because as you say, it's a lot of money to fork out, but I don't want to be in the stampede if/when the announcement comes that the lights will be going out.
I have a Bluetti EB70 and think it’s fantastic. I went for Bluetti over Jackery as the Jackery batteries are not Lifepo batteries and have a shorter life cycle. They are cheaper though so it’s down to how much you want to spend and how much you are using them.
I have the 200w panel as well but so far in this Minging Scottish weather it’s giving out poor power.

If money wasn’t a problem I would go for one of Bluettis larger home back up systems.

Have a vacant bit of mud -- ooops I mean empty garden but its about 12ft x 10ft at most, and is right under my kitchen window, so a shed might be OTT. Also I'm trying to get a move to a bigger house itsy so not keen to buy a shed just now. We're sitting tight here for the winter and then in Spring we'll decide whether to stay and invest money in this place or not.

Yea it's not a huge problem, just will wait until next year now. I want a bigger house - have put my name on the transfer and exchange lists, and will see what happens. Might be that I'd wait years - in which case we'll get the shed.
Having read a post about hay boxes, there is also the wonder oven.
Gas for camp stoves on offer at a well known outdoor shop.I have topped up my supply.
For when the electric is working, rice heat bags for warming the beds before getting into them.
I have put silver bubble wrap insulation on both sides of my loft hatch, this has already help retain heat.
