Chimney sweep is booked for the end of the month
All of my food preps have been moved into the new cupboards, well not quite all of them as they are full and and the sugar, flour pasta and rice will need to remain in storage boxes.
Husband is going down to a 4 day week tomorrow so less money coming in and a new budget to work to. He has a tiny pension he started when he was 21 but we could never afford to increase it back then, so this will cover a little of the deficit. It will mean that he has more time to do a few jobs, bit of painting outside, chopping more wood, re-grouting the bathroom etc etc :D

Had a few hours at the allotment, mostly to try to keep inside the rules, weeding and tidying. Some of the produce has crept out over communal paths, one squash has now crossed a path and invited itself into a neighbours plot by half a metre or so. :P
Made a modest harvest of Courgettes and Beefsteak and small Tomatoes
Cultivating a friendly relationship with plot neighbours with the site now becoming much more of a community of sharers.
We've had some produce stealing going on, which is bringing site security into focus.

Got some Geer Aid Tenacious Tape instant repair patches delivered. My old similar ones have gone over the approximate 5 years it's best to give these sort of things. I ordered a pack 19, but they sent six packs! So one is in the BOB repair kit and the rest in the prep room. They are for repairing tents, clothing etc.

Ordered some new alcohol wipes. Only £3.75. I have alc-free in FAK, but alc ones are useful for the tape, also removing marker pen from waterproof maps. Also any other glueing prep, eg superglue. I won't stick to expiry date, I think 5 years is ok. Main thing is not dried out.

Got mobile bike mechanic coming Tuesday. Apparently he works in his van. Carries the bike to it. Makes sense actually, as he has all his tools in it, and presumably a stand. Easier for me as well.

Mobile mechanic let me down. Will give him a day or two. There is another in this area.

Tested the head torch that hangs on my bed. Completely dead! Clearly needs checking more often. I see from my batteries spreadsheet I have a few others due for charging. But the 12 in my BOB were done in January. Once a year is ok for batteries that haven't been used. I probably used my torch a few times. But the batteries might be suspect. It has different ones in it now, so the one that were in it will most likely end up in one of the motion lights on the stairs/landing/prep room.

The Black Diamond is fiddly by the way. I've had to put a bit of ribbon in to get the bottom battery out. And the top one has to be positioned carefully to get the door to shut. It is also a bit fiddly to use. You can adust it by tapping it, as well as pressing buttons. It seems to have a feature whereby the light dims after a minute to save you battery. But it is a top brand.

I recharged the batteries in my main hand torch, which is near the bed, a few days ago.

My preps this week are different one I never considered
My old lady cat chases foxes thinking she's a black panther
Went missing ...16 hours later somehow dragged herself back with so many bite marks and blood i didn't recognise her ....foxes generally don't attack cats but I have so many clips from the cctv of her going for them  so one had had enough obviously and turned ..the tooth left in her head confirmed this
Somehow she's survived so far but left her mainly blind
When prepping its always been enough food for the animals meds they need etc ..this one is making sure the place is right for her and at the moment back to lead and harness for her to go out much to her disgust ..
Preps for pets this week ..she hasnt got any of those 9 lives left .
Have a little backpack that you put cats in with the clear front yes i know im a sad so and so but she's been around 13 years and not given me half as much grief as some people have

Oh god, I'm so sorry! Glad she's alive, though, and sending lots of healing vibes.

Crikey. I hope she recovers as much as she can and maybe learned a lesson?

Did a load more battery charging yesterday, plus things like bike lights. And checking battery spreadsheet. Also checked various little things in a small bag in the bugout bag lid. Things like illuminated magnifiers, which also have batteries, of course.

Bike mechanic came. The axle was seized up. He got it out with a bit of drilling, but the replacement wasn't quite right, so he's coming back next week. He's put my new tyre on, so it should be faster on roads. Said I can ride it, but I might leave it til it's got the new axle. Might just do a short test ride to see how the tyre is. From now on, I'll be undoing and doing up my axles every few months, and maybe adding a bit of grease.

What hub is on the bike? Was it the quick release spindle that was stuck inside the hub?

Add ceramic grease to your Amazon wish list

Small tube (you don't t need much )

https://www.wilcodirect.co.uk/product/a ... 40/GC-0840

You can get bigger tubs if needed
If your roughing it, Your doing it wrong ;)

Lack of planning on your part doesn't make it an emergency on mine
