We have a multi fuel stove (wood burner) and can burn wood or smokeless coal.....but at 82 I am finding
humping buckets of coal about and cleaning out ash and cleaning up is now too much.

Last winter we just lit the stove twice, just as test, we used the central heating 24/7 normally at a
constant 21C from when we first needed heating right through the winter.

At the time I did some rough costing and found with the previous gas used and the coal I would have
burned I would be spending about the same, even though coal and gas now more expensive I think the
costs would still balance.

So now the stove is our SHTF backup, we still keep some coal, logs and kindling just in case.

And i’ve just ordered a couple of X-Sense XCON-SR carbon monoxide detectors, one for living room and
one for our bedroom, these have a screen showing the concentration of any CO should be much safer
than just the alarm.

Sometimes it's just comforting to sit and watch a real fire as you listen to LoTR audiobooks :ugeek:

Really easy process even for a Luddite like me.

Just waiting for the separate display screen and solar panel connector to arrive on Monday.

Been Into town today my boss was saying that it was manic in farm foods with people buying tinned stuff....

Had a drift round town and discovered boyes department store stripped of gas cartridges (the shelf was full last weekend). Likewise the little independent DIY shop had very few left... Wonder if people are getting the hint??

Grabbed a spray can of 3in1 oil and just been down the shed inventory checking gas and other stocks gas bottles checked calor patio gas 5kg is a bit low but once it's gone I'll replace it ..others are healthy enough....

Gas cartridges checked and a good coat of 3 in 1 to stop them rusting one or 2 are a bit tatty so been pulled forward to use first

Got just shy of 20l of diesel for the diesel heater

Plenty of bio ethanol so I'm sitting somewhat pretty on the fuel front

Tested a couple of gas lanterns mantles still intact and working ..need to check a few more but I'll do it tonight with the lad in the garden and toast some marshmallows

In the ad break on telly this morning, Sky were pushing some new 'Are we ready for war' type offering. I understand they also recently released a related defense news app. Just one more symptom that preparedness and threat of war are getting more topical.

Ecoflow Delta 3 Max arrived today. I have been stocking up on batteries and candles, dried veggies. Also lighters (get yer lighters 10 for a pound) actually 50 for £8.60 which are stored in various places in metal tins and just bought another 6 gas canisters for the rocket stove in addition to the other fuel sources and stoves we have. Planning a BOB for husband as we currently just have the one. Also bought another oil lantern, wicks and carry case plus rolls of extra unbranded wicks which will fit, but were cheaper. Dedicated a storage box to a blackout box. Still plenty to do and stock up on.
Growing old disgracefully!

Good idea. You could each have some essentials, have more scope for redundancy, and also maybe divide some shared stuff.
