i try my best  Got to look at how say the SAS pack and what they take that and the humble backpacker/ bivier / wild camper gets on with minimal kit everything chosen for its usefulness reliability and size Ok we wont be walking carying a machine gun a folding morter and a pocket of grenades but the camping out/ catering is kept small light and simple.... eg

As people have said its better to make one to suit your needs, I think there are a few basics that are needed in every bag, those being:
  • Sleeping bag
    Sleeping mat
USB memory stick with copies of important documents on.
    Money
    First aid kit
Cheap Nokia phone with crank or AA powered charger, programmed with all your important numbers
As if you have to spend a night or two in a community center (like many did when trapped in snow on roads a few years back.) , a friends floor, or a hotel (yes they have beds, but if you have a family can you afford more than one room, or a family room if they have one)

I'd also supplement that with:
  • bivi bag
    Food
    Water
    Torch
Its unlikely that you will need the next few items but its nice to have them if you drive a lot in rural areas:
  • Firesteel and tinder
    Knife
    lighter
    chafing fuel tin
    Small cooking pot or tin
    Candle
    Radio
    Cordage (550 Paracord)
    Tarp
Compass and map of the area
You can really get heavy into equipment if you want and start going into:
  • Two way radios
    Satellite Navigation
    Firearms
    Brass wire
and so on but its what you consider as needed for you

Hi metatron

That is a good list, but would 2 way radios be a good idea, can others listen in, lets say if they had their own set?

Really good, straight forward list.

Thanks

Before i went down this road, i looked at my EDC, beefed that up, then the BOB follows on from there.

Since getting up the woods and taking everything, i have forund just how little you really need, i know its not all about bugging out to the woods, but it helps put yourself in a situation without major services, so you have to deal with what you have (and i like it up the woods).

So you may find as i did, that everything ive always taken up the lake when on a fishing weekend works and the bag i always have when we go on holiday for down the beach so we dont have to spend loads of money on teas and coffees also is a must, i was surprised just how "ready" i already was.

The EDC/BOB/GHB viewforum.php?f=42 threads are a wealth of knowledge, i also bought a book that has alot of info, but as most others have said, its what you and yours need, it shouldn't be about ruffing it either, its supposed to make you stay comfortable. ;)
