Rolling Blackouts.

Now we have a period of cuts ahead and probable protest strikes, there may be power outages. I am stocking up on paraffin and candles. I have two Alladin lamps, and they also warm as well as light. I still await the pocket stainless steel camping stove. Next outlay is water butts ( 2) for the back g...

Bang or Whiper?

I have been thinking of when the stuff hits the fan, will it be a big bang or a drawn out whimper. I have ruled out zombies, ain't seen any yet, and the Hollywood scenario of the apocalypse sounds exciting, but I hope implausible. I favour the slow drip, drip of power cuts, attacks on the banks comp...

Thanks... I seem to remember them now, usually with an 'interesting leaf' design or a picture of Bob Marley.
Thanks

Re: What preps are you doing this week? part 2.

Just curious, I've never seen an Altoid tin, tho have on Utube. What are Altoids and can I get them in the UK? The only thing similar tins I have seen were the old tobacco tins, and they've stopped now. I'm starting to make those simple small heaters using corrugated cardboard, tuna tins and paraffi...

Re: What preps are you doing this week? part 2.

Thanks for all the tips. |I am following someone's advice ( can't remember who ) who suggests storing pop bottles ( 1/2 litres Coke bottles ] of water in the freezer. That I will do. Two reasons, [1 ] If the leccy goes of for several hours, it will keep the freezer cold and that it saves leccy becau...

Re: Rations for hunkering down

Bristol Dave, that is seriously a good idea. I have one of those beds that lift up at the end. I can tore it under there. That would stop stuff going out of date. To my shame I found some lentils in my cupboard as 'Best before 2011'. Duh! This would stop that. Also whether from a message from my unc...

Re: What preps are you doing this week? part 2.

I went into Llandudno and spent £40 on dried and tinned things, plus a few solar garden lights each 85p. Useful re-chargable torches if the light does go off. Of course, it's all not for the 'Hunker Bunker', but I did check most of the sell by dates on the packs and tins. Aso vitamin pills. Next mon...

Re: On being mean with money

Many thanks all. I like the idea of several plastic crates that could be rotated, that would make sure that nothing went out of date. I was digging around in my pantry yesterday and found a pack of dried chick peas, sell by date Jan, 2011. < sigh > I must get organised. Again, thanks.
